The quality of these old Matsumoku built MIJ Arias was exceptional, and this bass feels, plays and sounds fantastic! It is in excellent condition with a few minor marks and a light scratch near the neck pickup that has been drop-filled and leveled, but not yet polished and buffed (shown in the pics below). Properly polished and buffed, the scratch would disappear.
The MB-III pickups on this thing are monsters! They are the most powerful passive pickups I have ever played, but they also dial back quite nicely. It has a pot/cap combo that works very well, with tones that range from really big, fat punchy sound down to a true dub tone. When I got the bass, the neck pickup had a minor short in it, so I had Kent Armstrong re-wind it to spec and, as usual, he did an amazing job.
It is worth noting that the necks on these old Arias, which I have to say feel fantastic, are unique in that they do not taper dramatically. The neck is 44mm at the nut, 51mm at the 12th fret and 55mm at the 22nd fret.
I love this bass (by far my favorite 4-string) and do not want to sell it, but I really don’t have a choice. I need to liquidate virtually all of my music gear to pay medical bills for a family member who has just been diagnosed with cancer. (I will be listing at least 6 other basses for sale this weekend).
I must raise cash so, please, no trade offers.
$420 for local pickup.
CONUS Shipping: $30 east of the Mississippi, $45 west of the Rockies, or $40 anywhere in-between. The bass will be shipped via UPS, safely packaged with the neck removed and fully insured.
The bass will come with the D'Addario EXL160 Nickel XL Roundwounds (50-70-85-105) that are currently on it. The following very lightly used sets of strings that I had on this bass previously are also available for $16 each, $30 for two sets, $42 for three sets, or $52 for all four sets:
- D'Addario ENR70 XL Half Rounds (40-60-75-95) - played for less than an hour
- EB Slinky Cobalt Flatwounds (50-70-85-105) - played for only a few hours
- D'Addario Chromes (45-65-80-100) - played for only a few hours
- Fender 9120M Nylon Tapewounds (.058-.110) - played sporadically for a couple of months
Thanks for looking!
