Man I wish that I could get around on a neck with tighter spacing, because this bass was a dream of mine when I was just starting out on bass at 14. I love the design, the German woodiness of it, and the tone that I picked up on various recordings really turned me on.
Alas, I’ve gotten used to 18mm spacing on a 6 and 19mm on a 5, to the point that I just can’t get around on this bass live. In the practice room, I’m in love. Crystal clear notes on every part of the neck, and having owned and gigged several of these (5 strings in both fretted/fretless and two other 6’ers from this era) I have to say that the Aguilar pickups and pre in this bass are a vast improvement over the original electronics.
I did a single gig with this bass live, and ergonomics aside, it had a commanding tone that was right up there with my main gigging basses: two Sadowsky NYC’s (a PJ5 and a Modern Fretless). There’s a solidity to every note that pokes through even a busy mix.
This bass will ship with (and in) a ginormous, military-grade flight case, and you can see more details about that in the previous owner’s thread. More pics there as well, but here are some of my own
