For sale is a circa-1980 Peavey T-40 in Sienna Burst, one of the rarer finishes and one I like better than the much more common natural finish. These T-40s were made in Meridian, Mississippi, USA and are very quality-consistent, well-built basses, being among the first basses ever produced by numerically controlled routing (CNC) machines. This era of the T-40 bass has two of the most desirable “toaster- style” humbucking pickups, passive electronics with three-way pickup selector, volume and tone for each pickup, coil tap and phase switch, producing a huge variety of tones. The neck is a bi-laminate maple four-bolt neck with factory 1.75” wide die-cast metal nut. The bridge is literally massive. Presently strung with new Chrome flats.

Weight on my kitchen scale is 11 pounds 4 ounces. Serial number 00599999 (pretty cool!) dates to mid-1980. It plays and sounds great. There’s a number of very light nicks and scratches and wear on the body as you might expect on an almost forty-year old bass, the neck is clean in the playing area with a couple of tiny dings. I believe all the hardware is original, including the original hard-shell case (silver paint added by a previous owner), which is still in good shape, all latches and hinges are in good shape. The truss rod works, I added a washer to get some more range of adjustability. There is a hair-line crack at the bottom of the neck (delamination?) but doesn’t impact playability and according to my tech won’t cause any problems.

I’m asking $600, PayPal is fine, contact me for other payment methods. Free delivery anywhere in the Houston area. Will ship to continental US FREE or to Alaska/Hawaii for actual shipping. I will ship it in the original hard-shell case. It will be wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in a new cardboard box. Will consider shipping to Canada for actual shipping, insurance and duty costs based on sales price. No International shipping, sorry.

I bought this bass when I joined a couple of country bands, because a T-40 is the quintessential country bass, but I no longer have a need and it hasn’t been played. This vintage machine deserves to have someone who will appreciate it. I’ve been asked to reduce my stable to a “normal” number of basses, so no trades, sorry.
