Thanks y'all! That's me and the bass. We have a great hall that is very bass friendly. My first concert with the orchestra was Beethoven 9 in 1978. My last concert with the orchestra was Beethoven 9 on June 1 of this year. I purchased the Prescott from a member of the section who retired in 1980.
Wow!, thanks for all the nice descriptions. I am fortunate to be close to Nashville where I can use the services of Dustin Williams, one of the best bass luthiers anywhere. When I brought it to him in June for a final cleaning and tune up he picked up the bass, plucked a note and said one word: "chocolate"
The string length is 41". Yes, it was probably altered from the original string length.
wow. I can't imagine a more desireable bass: 41" string is really the direction most players want to go in right now, it's a prescott (we've all heard of him!), it's old, it's been living in a symphony getting played for decades..
this will be an easy purchase for the person that ends up with it...
