Details

1986 Wal Mk2 5 string. Completed February '86. Burr maple facings, mahogany core, ebony fingerboard, chrome hardware. This one is the second oldest surviving original pre-production 5 string. The first four protos were built for Wal artists, and the first two got crushed in a car accident within the first year, so this one is a bit of a historical piece (Rob Burns still has 5 string #3/Dec85). Built for Wal artist and pro sessionist Mark Smith which he played it heavily til 2009 with who's who of UK name bands: like Kokomo, Waterboys, Morrisey Mullen, and Boys Don't Cry and more. So this bass has lots of player wear, nicks, dings on bottom from stands, but this bass seems so lively too and still looks stunning, she just has a killer tone! These protos have an 81-85 style preamp, the pickups are tad smaller and the pickup placement is closer to the bridge more like the 4 string basses, so this sounds more like a gritty timbre of the Mk1. Other proto only details are the various screws are different too. Bass weighs 11.3 lbs. Circut boards have already been serviced at Wal HQ. Will include a Hiscox y2k era Wal-issued hardshell case, and a new tool kit. Strung with EB slinky 45-130 set.
$6400 shipped in lower US. Payment by either as a bank transfer or a check, no paypal.
