For sale is one 1996 Lakland 55-94 Deluxe, 5-string unlined fretless in a 34 inch scale, the serial number puts this at #10 for the first year of the 55-94 series from my research.

This bass was gigged regularly, but it was meticulously taken care of. The back of the neck has lost its finished from years of use and feels nice and broken in from the heel to the headstock - see the photo of the back of the neck/headstock for detail. You'll be hard pressed to find any blemishes in the finish. The electronics are fully functional, but there may be a scratchy pot among the few. The pickups are original as well.

This bass belonged to my late father, known as Dr. Riddim here on TB and Sugarbear locally, who passed away last year. As much as I hate selling it, I can't play it (I'm left-handed). It was his #1, he sold a Studebaker Avanti he was restoring to buy it. Mom would rather it go into the hands of a musician who will appreciate it as much as he did, and I believe he would want that too. It is 34" scale, as opposed to the more common 35" scale, which is what he was looking for in a high quality 5-string bass when he purchased this in 2001. It is currently strung with LaBella black nylon tapewounds, and has dunlop straplocks installed.

It will come in it's case with some towels between the strings and body of the bass for extra protection. Also included will be what I believe to be the bass' original bridge, it is your standard Lakland oval bridge without the Lakland stamp on it. Considering the early nature of this bass, I assume that this was the original bridge and my father replaced it with a newer one for likely aesthetic reasons. I've also taken the battery out of the bass after he passed, as I knew it would be sitting in its case for a few months.

It's hard to let this one go, if you've ever seen him play around St. Pete he was playing this bass. But it's time to say goodbye, we have the memories and photos of him playing and this beautiful instrument isn't getting the love and attention it deserves.

Edit 2: New lower price, asking $2500! Still looking for a home for this beauty. I feel I should add that the bass has been in it's case and packed up to ship since early February, so there should be no contamination of the contents.

Edit: I wanted to share a video of the bass in action, there are actually quite a few videos of him playing it on there. Shame that Youtube compression is unforgiving of live bass playing...

Thank you guys, I hate letting this one go but the bass needs that love and attention I can't give it. And mom would rather it not sit in its case unplayed.

All the funds go to her by the way, I'm not getting a penny. She's doing some house updates so she gets the funds from any basses sold.

Thanks again SC! I was always impressed watching him play so effortlessly. He really only had the use of his index and middle finger for playing and was using a stool on stage right up until the end, but he never lost the ability to play so well.

Bumping the thread, as we are still looking for a new home for the Deluxe, and a new lower price. Thank you for looking!

Bump. I long owned a similar 34" 5-string Lakland fretless, and the late Dr. Riddim (RIP) and I had some TB correspondence about the greatness of this run of Laklands. I don't see how someone goes wrong with this axe. This bass needs to be bought and played!

Joe, I believe that when I was going through Riddim's posts I came across that thread you mentioned. Reading what he had to say, about how much he loved that bass, made it so hard to accept that it has to go to a new home, but we know he would love to see it get played again and the money going to mom to help her out would make him very happy.

I am happy to say that we have found a buyer! The bass is getting shipped out on Monday to its new home. The new owner said he has a fretted version of this bass, and he absolutely loves it and is very happy to have the opportunity to own this one as well. Thank you all if you considered a purchase.
