Hello all!

Back up for sale...

2,199 ~ buyer to cover shipping costs. If ordered new, it is 2,900 from Lakland before tax, shipping, and upcharge for the custom pickguard....and the looooong wait.

So I present a mint condition USA Lakland 55-JJ finished in shoreline gold metallic over alder with a one off custom pickguard handmade by the builders at Lakland. The bass just received a set up, with a new set of Dunlop 'Super Bright' Nickel strings installed by my tech that I have not touched since picking the bass up.

Graphite reinforced maple quartersawn neck, and maple fingerboard with some nice figuring...PLEK'D and hand finished. Lakland vintage single coil pickups, and a rear route in the body if you decide to drop a preamp in. I will include the pre-cut copper shielding to make the job easier.

The Shoreline Gold metallic is gorgeous in person, and was sprayed very thin, as was the thin layer of poly to conceivably allow the bass to resonate a little more...and it does! This bass has the biggest, punchiest, and most even sound I have ever heard on a passive 5!!

You can see a very slight bit of the wood grain lines at certain angles, which I think looks really cool...like a vintage Fender with a nitro paint job, just not as extreme. Anything that looks like a scratch is just a reflection. There are absolutely no marks or dings of any kind on the entire instrument.

35" scale
19mm string spacing.
Weight is just over 8 pounds.
Mint Lakland hardshell case included.
I have the silver sleeve inserts for the tuners if you wish to change them back so they match.
Comes from a smoke free home, and has never left my home practice studio.

I also have a new, unopened set of USA Hipshot Ultralight cloverleaf tuners to fit this bass, if interested, for an additional cost.

Thank you!

Hi xparis001,

Not at the moment, but I can say after owning many boutique 'Fender-esque' 5 string basses, this one has the rare 'it' factor that doesn't happen very often...in my opinion. It has exceptional balance and eveness across every single note, with the perfect amount of 'bloom'. The B and E strings have the longest sustain I've ever heard. Not all of my 35" scale basses had this.

I assume it is the right weight and timbre of the pieces of wood Lakland used to build this particular bass, along with the vintage voiced single coils that really created something special.

I should probably keep it...lol!

you wouldnt happen to have any demo videos or a soundcloud, would you?
These Willie Weeks prototypes have the most amazing passive electronics, you would swear they had a battery the way they cut thru the mix! If arthritis had not set in from my carpel tunnel surgery, I would have kept all my 35" scale basses. Incredible bass IMHO!

Is the preamp route in the rear a factory feature?
Pics?

Hi Jim,

Yes, it is a factory feature. Even though the bass is passive, the rear route (and backplate) are exactly as you would have on a 55-94. I had Lakland cut all the correct copper shielding pieces for me in case I ever decided to drop a preamp in. Those are included in the sale.

Yes, the bass is still available.

I have had a couple of people asking why it has been available for so long, so I'll address that...I listed the bass back in March, and then after a number of weeks decided to keep it. I then relisted it again a few months later. Combine that with slow buying due to Covid, and here this beautiful instrument sits, after 5,600 views.
