Longer scale length for better B-string tone
Bassists at Sweetwater especially like Lakland 5-string basses because their longer 35" scale length holds the low B string at a higher tension. This means that your lowest notes will have more punch and impact, with more note definition, too. If you've played a few 5-string bass guitars, you know that some of them can sound quite flubby in the lowest registers. With the Skyline 55-02 Custom, your tone will stay tight and pronounced right down to the low B.
Active pickups and preamp
No matter what style of music you play, the Lakland pickup system will give you every tone you could want. The Skyline 55-02 Custom sports the same amazing pickups and preamp found on the (much more expensive) 44-94. These active electronics give your instrument serious punch, plus extra expression across the whole fingerboard. A dual-coil humbucking pickup in the bridge gives you fat, aggressive tones, while the J-style single-coil pickup in the neck position offers mellow, warm tones.
