Details

It’s hard to overstate the beauty and tone of this Muckelroy HMC. Brady accomplished this by combining several types of wood. This bass has a 5 piece set neck constructed of wenge with maple accents, an Ecuadorian rosewood center, and an ebony finger board.

The center portion of the body is alder topped with wenge / ebony, maple accent veneers in between, and bloodwood stringers with maple accent veneers on either side. The wings of the body are Flame Spanish cedar topped with Cocobolo and with maple accent veneer in between.

The small detail on this bass is amazing – for example the truss rod cover is made of the same woods as the neck – wenge, maple accents, and Ecuadorian rosewood – making it virtually invisible. And the Cocobolo battery cover is held in place with magnets which make it easy and quick to replace batteries.

Like all Muckelroy basses the tone is full, it has great sustain, and there are no dead notes throughout the entire range. I think it sounds similar to one of my friend’s high-end Warwick.

Brady has built some pretty amazing basses and this one is right at the top. Overall the result is that this bass is both a work horse and a show horse!

"Brady has built some pretty amazing basses and this one is right at the top. Overall the result is that this bass is both a work horse and a show horse!"

I have owned a number of Muckelroys. Brady is my favorite builder and the HMC 5-string is my favorite of his designs (my all-time #1 is a medium scale HMC-5). Every one of his basses I have encountered has been fantastic, but this one really does look to be a cut above the norm. It is as nice as any Muckelroy I've seen! The selection of woods is amazing and with those Delano SBC quad coils, Nordy preamp and series/ single coil/parallel switching configuration, the versatility must be off the charts! The "both a work horse and a show horse" description is undoubtedly spot on. I am certain that whoever winds up with this will be beyond thrilled. I wish it could be me, but my company is in significant financial distress due to the pandemic and I will likely be restricted to only trades or partial trades for the foreseeable future, so... GLWTS jimboBEADG!

I'm almost certain I have pictures saved of this bass from when I was trying to get inspiration for where to go with my build.

Beautiful!

If I didn't love medium scale so much, I'd have a hard time resisting this one.

GLWS!
