Hi All,

I've reactivated the original listing for this bass. Decided to keep it for a project in LA that has run its course. So it’s back up on the market.

I have a very nice 1993 Fender USA Jazz Bass Plus V, the one with the Kubicki preamp. Bass is in nice shape--the sunburst finish has no notable dings or scratches. I thought the grain looks like ash but another member (see below) says alder--I think he's right. Weight is a manageable 8lbs, 10oz on my trust Berkeley fish scale. Original case is beat but functional. Pictured with Chromes but I'll keep those. Will install XLs or EBMM rounds--buyer's choice.

Price: $1100 shipped in the continental US. Please, no trades.

I'm pretty sure that's an alder body based on the straightness & tightness of the grain lines (I have finished several alder bodies with similar grain patterns). Also, I happen to own the ash version of this bass and you can see how the grain pattern differs in the pic below.

That said I still believe these are some of the best sounding basses Fender has ever produced and if I could justify owning another one I'd snatch this up in a heartbeat.

I used to have an ash-bodied one like that, and now I have an alder one. If I could find an ash one for sale, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I used to have one just like the one for sale; selling it was one of my true regrets. I had heard that most of them were made of alder or poplar, except for the natural stained ones that were ash. They are fine instruments.

Thanks, guys. Traditionally, Fender used alder for burst bodies after about 1957 but I know things changed in the 80s (and I suspect there are some post-57 ash-bodied burst Fenders out there). So, yeah, probably alder. Cool bass but went in a different direction.

So, looking up the Kubicki, the controls are stacked MV/pickup pan, stacked treble/bass (boost and cut), and a 4-way rotary mute/active with mid boost (w/internal trim pot adjust)/active/passive?

Is there a tone control in passive mode?

Really like this one! :cool:

Yes. It’s the concentric ring on the middle knob. I gave it whirl today to make sure. Subtle tone sweep, nothing like the active modes.

Ah, Kubicki - a blast from the past. I like this pre; I have another Fender from the same era with it installed.

I gigged this bass back in the day in passive mode, no battery installed; sounded great.

Brilliant basses. I hired one on my only ever trip Stateside, from Bauder Audio. I've never sounded better. I always promised myself I'd get one, but that Atlantic Ocean is preventing me from having this one.

This is the exact same year, model and color (Tobacco Burst) of my very first five string bass. I'm so tempted to buy it and come full circle to where I started. I'll be thinking hard about this one.

As an FYI, we leave town end of next week for a months. If the bass doesn't sell by then it goes back into the closet for a while.
