2015 Squier CV 50s P-Bass

Upgraded to a Lindy Fralin Split ‘51 P-Bass Pickup - 5% overwound output. Strung with flats. Very warm round tone.

Weight- 8lbs, 8ozs

These are great basses, but the stock pickups are a bit noisy (like a lot of single coils). Not the case with the Lindy Fralin. It’s super quiet with lots of low end and versatility. Responds well with the tone knob, too.

As you can see, bass looks sharp and is in great shape. The wood grain looks even prettier in person than in the pics. I’m only selling it because I’m trying to reduce the number of basses in my collection. I’m just not gigging enough these days to justify everything I have. I’ll be posting other basses and gear in the near future.

Would prefer a local sale, but will ship on buyer’s dime. No case, but if it needs shipped, I’ll be sure to pack it well.

I'm no Fender expert by any means, but I would have mistaken this bass for a tele, given the headstock and pickguard. What's the difference?

Hammertime- They’re real similar. I’m not Fender expert, so someone can feel to correct me if I’m wrong, but the first P basses (51-56) were based on the telecaster guitar body. Then in 57, the redesigned P bass is the style we see today. Fender released another version of the original in the late 60s called the Telecaster bass.

So Leo developed the Tele first. Then, when he got the Pbass brainstorm, he just used a lot of the Tele's design cues from the year or so before: headstock, slab body, similar bridge and controls. He did mess with the body horns to control the instrument's balance, but other than that they were companion pieces for a few years.

Then he conceptualized the Strat, basing its body shape... on the Pbass. The Strat changed the guitar game immediately, and so Fender quickly redesigned the Pbass to give it Strat-style body contours, the Tele then becoming sort of its own thing. That 1954 redesign is what's represented here. Eventually the Pbass got its new pup and its Stratty headstock and a less crude bridge, and the rest is history.

I haven’t weighed it on a digital scale, but will either have access to one or get one this week. When I get the specific info, I’ll let you know and update the listing.
Using the bathroom scale, it seems to come in close to 9.5 pounds.

Yes, they are brass saddles. I noticed it before, but didn’t really think much of it until you mentioned it. After doing a little research, it looks like some of the white blonde CV basses got the HiMass bridge w the brass saddles (but not all). Funny I didn’t find any of the other 50s CV p basses (blue, butterscotch blonde) with a brass bridge.

All of the original run MIC Classic Vibe Basses should've come from the factory with the hi-mass brass saddle bridge (jazz, precisions, scpb's like this one etc). No need to change out when it's already factory upgraded:) such a sweet bass, GLWTS!

That's a great deal! The Chinese CV 50s are way superior to the Indonesian ones that now Squier sells. Much better build quality and sound.

The main difference is that the original Precision bass has two horns, compared to one for the Telecaster.
