- Fretless

Hi everyone..... I swore to myself that this would be a bass that I would hold onto for as long as I could, but it occurred to me that someone out there may want to play it and appreciate it.
This bass has some history to it, as the note in the picture below reads. “This Bass was used for a session in Metropolis Studio’s where I once worked, on a recording with Producer, Rupert Hine. Wal (Mr. Wally) made it for the session from pieces in the factory and gave it as a gift. Later the bass was used as the Fretless sample sound on the first AKAI sampler that was made.” The letter goes on to read...“So, it has to be said that it is a collector’s item.”
I would have to agree.
The Bass has an incredible warm, deep, and beautiful tone, with many voicing options within the active preamp. I would choose this bass, any day, over a custom Fretless Mk1 built today, mostly because of its enticing vintage tone.
The bass inveriatably has some nicks to the body, as well as some lacquer cracks I have done my best to photograph. The neck only has a couple nicks on the backside...the ebony fretboard has minimal wear from roundwound strings, and truly resonates beautifully.
The bass is a very comfortable 9 pounds and comes with the original case from 1980/81. All latches on the case work, which is definitely not always the case with these.
All electronics work perfectly. A new Wal mk1(similar body shape) will cost you almost twice this amount as well as a 36 month wait. This bass here is indeed a collector’s item... you can not purchase one like this from Wal headquarters. Wal discontinued Pro bass production in the early part of the 1980s.
Buyer to pay actual cost of shipping within the contiguous 48 States.
Bank transfer preferred.
Any questions please feel free to ask.
