Details

Back up for sale, baby on the way. Bought it earlier this year, no issues, plays very well and strings are Dunlop (they have sunbeams now, you will get the dunlops too) flats. Does not come with a strap, if I can find the fender gig bag I will include it. Local sale only, I don't have a box to ship it in. Located in San Diego.

Sorry! Sound and quality wise.

No idea how it compares to the Performer. Easy to play since its shortscale, with the flats on it right now it has that vintage thumpy tone if you want. That's what I wanted when I got this bass.

Sorry! Sound and quality wise.

I've had a couple examples of both basses over the past few years. Without going into a huge, detailed description, both are good quality basses. The American Performer has a much sleeker neck--in fact, at least for my hand, it has about the most comfortable neck I've ever felt on a fender. The JMJ is definitely way chunkier, but also fairly comfortable playing. As for sound, with the JMJ, you get vintage Mustang Bass tone. The American Performer also gives you the "Mustang tone" with the neck pickup soloed, but it is a bit more modern sounding--more defined and "pointed." With the bridge pickup and neck pickup together, the AP can cop a J-bass tone fairly well. With the bridge pickup soloed, it's a fairly "Jaco" sounding tone. Very usable sounds all the way around.

Ultimately, it depends on what you want in sound. If you want a great traditional Mustang sound, the JMJ will probably give you a bigger smile. If you want more of a "covers more ground" or "modern" bass sound, the AP will give you a bigger smile. Both are great basses and both sound great. Can't go wrong with either.
