original peavey preamp was busted, so i replaced it with the Bartolini 5.2 GFL Compact Preamp 2-Pickup 5-Knob 3-Band Vol - Bl - Treb - Mid P/P 18v Preamp ($200 preamp plus installation) - Works great however due to an error on my side the P/P mid knob does not work and is stuck to 0 (flat). this can be fixed by replacing the one single P/P pot. Sounds great as is.
