Details

1990 Englehardt M-1 3/4 upright bass. Laminated body, blonde finish. Upgrades include ebony fingerboard, adjustable bridge, Revolution Solo pickup, and new end pin - installed and set up by Ed Fedewa. Also includes Ingles stand and Gewa deluxe bass bag. Currently wearing Obligato strings.

This is a basic laminated upright but the upgrades and expert setup make it sound and play far better than it should. Nice singing tone, particularly on the D and G strings. A great choice for a student or anyone looking for a tough gig bass. I’ve used it for jazz, Celtic, and bluegrass and it’s served me well. Alas, I need to downsize and I’m not playing upright much these days.

$1200. Located in mid-Michigan. Will not ship, but willing to meet at a mutually convenient location. PM me here with any questions. Thanks for looking!

Lotta Engle hate from some quarters around here, so I just want to offer my personal opinion/experience that a well set up Engle can really be a fine instrument. Probably not what you want to bring to an orchestral audition, but certainly a durable, serviceable ply workhorse. I like the neck on mine, but necks - and preferences - differ. I love mine strung w/ guts for bluegrass/oldtime...

Someone looking for a solid ply could do a lot worse for $1200.

GLWTS!

Looked at the pics again - the edges on your 90 look a lot cleaner than my 10! But what have you been doing to get those (minor) nicks on the scroll? :D

The endpin, adjustable bridge, pickup, and stand are very nice extras, making this price all the more reasonable. And the setup makes it considerably more than a stock Engle.

Ed S - Some of the nicks on the scroll were there when I got it. The others are the result of late night sessions and shows at bluegrass events, Irish band gigs, and somewhat unsteady late night unloading jocularities. It’s a great bass for what it is!
