PRICE REDUCED to $3500, shipped CONUS. I'm the second owner of this NYC Sadowsky 5-string fretless, #6282, and am selling it only because I'm not playing fretless often enough - or well enough - to justify ownership of such a wonderful and valuable bass. The original owner had used it as his main fretless for stage and studio work, and this instrument deserves to be broadly played and heard.
The specs are special:
Maple neck with vintage tint
Will Lee neck sizing (1.75" @ nut, 19 mm @ bridge)
24-fret ebony fretless fingerboard, unlined (side position markers)
Alder body, chambered
'59 burst finish
Vol/Blend/Tone/Active Tone Stack (tone is active/passive push/pull switch)
Single-coils, in '70's position...and I've never had any single-coil hum.
7.8 pounds light, and balances beautifully on a strap or lap.
The fingerboard has had roundwounds on it at times, but the original owner generally used flats, and I've used Sadowsky flats throughout my time with it. The headstock and neck are very clean. Thre some scratches and blemishes on the body, but nothing alarming, and none of them penetrate the clear coat.
On tone and playability, this bass is very sensitive to right hand placement and touch - a lot of tonal variety to be had - and the Sadowsky pre and single-coils let you go from mellow to growl. Several times I've come close to selling this bass, but held back because it's so darned good. But it belongs with someone who can truly take advantage of all that it offers.
