Michael Tobias designed a bass using a uncommon soft tone wood for a neck and utilized the strength of a Modulus carbon fiber spine and head stock platform to support these woods not normally able to support a neck. This is the premise of the Genesis line of instruments This is the Modulus Tobias hybrid that was very limited in production for a few years due to high cost of construction it was discontinued in the early 2000s.. Body is the predecessor to the MTD Saratoga models and the similar ergonomically lines are very apparent. When combined with the stellar Bartolini Jazz pick-ups (hands down the best bridge pick up I ever played) high end tuners, bridge and 9v-3 band active preamp the quality is obvious and abundant, warm tone with quick response without the problem of full carbon sterilness. I had the bass set up once 5 years ago (at Lark Street Music)and never had to adjust again which is priceless because with my Fenders it was a seasonal chore. The bass is in great shape, flawless in play but the finish has basic swirls that come with any 24 year old gloss finish. To my knowledge this is the only production collaboration of any two major companies and is bound to increase in value over time and due to limited production numbers and they will not be produced again. I'm selling all my 34" full scale basses due to age and work related issues in my hands and wrists.
