I wanted a G&L Matador for a long time and finally got one a bit over a year ago. What a truly amazing bass. But I'm trying to narrow down my collection to 5 basses or fewer. The Matador is like a P-Bass on steroids - the extra bridge P pickup is kind of like if you had a P./J but better. No thin-sounding bridge pickup here. Either pickup is fat and punchy on its own but you also have the added flexibility of a series/parallel switch, in addition to the standard volume/volume/tone controls. Note: The switch is series-parallel for the neck pickup only.

I had a custom "Moonstone" pickguard made by Chandler/Pickguard Heaven and also added cream covers to the stock pickups. I have the original black pickguard and black pickup covers if you want them.

The body is ash and the satin blond finish (G&L calls it "blond frost" is really special, as is the flamed and quartersawn roasted maple neck. Medium jumbo stainless steel frets. These are high-quality upgrades that G&L only offers through its Custom Shop. G&L Custom Shop basses are generally $3500 and up brand new so take advantage of getting a rare used one while you can. Even the case is beautiful and unique.

Absolutely amazing condition with a couple small notes:

-Some very minor finish wear around some of the neck bolts. I mean really really insignificant.
-The storage pocket on the case is coming loose - I show this where I am pointing in one of the pictures. You just need a hammer to hammer it back into place. It may need to be reinforced but I just push it back into place.
-Schaller strap ends have been installed
This has been professionally set up with D'Addario roundwounds (at least I think they are D'Addarios.) I've used it as many gigs as I can in the last 1.5 years and it kills in a mix, can cut through anything. The stock G&L LB100 pickups are the best of all worlds. They aren't crazy hot like the SB-1 pickups but they are definitely a bit louder than your average P pickup - best of all worlds, honestly.

Weight is about 8.63 lbs.

I'd like $2149 + actual UPS Ground shipping (via PirateShip) (lower 48) or best fair offer. Case pictured is included. Mono Strap with Schaller straplocks also included. Subtract $50 if you don't want the strap.

Cash is always king but trades are always an option. My needs are fairly specific these days since I'm trying to decrease, not increase my number of basses. The following, in no particular order, would interest me:

-Amp heads such as Aguilar, Mesa, Genz Benz, Genzler, Ashdown, etc. 500 watts or higher preferred. Plus cash to me.
-Lower-priced 4-string fretless bass plus cash to me. No sunburst and no Jazz necks. Must have lines.
-Maybe a G&L El Toro, as long as the neck is 100% stable, plus cash to me

Wow! Has that Lee Sklar thang Goin on
Kinda. I've actually had three different Lee Sklar-inspired P-basses and those are a bit different because the P-bass pickups are reversed and they're further apart - basically in the "Jazz Bass" positions. The Matador, on the other hand, has "regular" (non reverse) P-Bass pickups with one in the traditional "middle" position and one at the bridge. After playing both pretty regularly, I will say the Lee Sklar setup is cool, but I like the Matador better - both sonically and ergonomically.

got it, I know he used 2 P pick ups on "the one" that was used for a lot of recordings. I didn’t know the spacing & details but thanks for bringing me up to speed!

Your not crazy ,just impulsive, like the rest of us
Truth. And actually I'm trying to shift some of my gear from basses (where I have too many) into amps/cabs (where I don't have enough.) Plus I'm trying to free up space in my bass closet. So I guess selling this (as well as my ruby red M2000) is a fairly calculated maneuver.

My band recorded an 18 minute feature showcase a couple months and it was just published today. Guess which bass is featured in it? This G&L Matador! So if you want to hear what it sounds like, now you can! (Just please ignore my interview awkwardness and sloppy playing, LOL.)

I've received some interesting offers both on here and on Facebook. I haven't made a move yet, though, because cash is king... you know how it goes. Hit me up before I come to my senses!

What I'd really like - aside from getting an all-cash offer for this one - is to trade it for a nice bass head + cash from you. I'd also consider a fretless + cash! PM me, I'm always on here, lol!

Would love to get this sold this week so I'm dropping the price to $2299 shipped lower 48 or best fair offer.

I would consider a nice bass head + cash from you in trade
OR
A nice fretless (no Jazz necks and no sunburst - I'm the antithesis of Jaco lol) + cash from you in trade.

I may be able to be talked into accepting a G&L EL Toro (if the neck is 100% stable) in trade as well. Probably would need a little cash with it.
