1986 Ibanez RB690, made by FujiGen in Japan.
Somewhat rarer "reverse red burst" color and in aesthetically amazing shape for an almost 40 year old bass.
This was made when Ibanez was truly at the top of their game and you can feel it. Every detail of this bass just exudes pure quality craftsmanship.

The previous owner switched the pickups out to Dimarzio Model J DP123 pickups for that classic-meets-modern aggressive but familiar tonality. These are by far my favorite J pickups ever made.
Since that was done and the originals weren't available anymore, I decided to switch the preamp out for a Nordstrand 2B, set up as the following configuration:
- Volume (pull for series mode for both pickups)
- Blend
- Passive tone control (pull to bypass preamp)
- Stacked Bass/Treble controls (high freq switch is on preamp module for 2 different responses)
- It was also fully shielded using nickel paint, in the control and the pickup cavities.

This bass is a MONSTER for tonal options and output. Whatever style you're into, it can do it.
Frets have been polished, new set of EB Cobalt Hybrids 45-105, set up with fairly low action. Truss rod works great, neck is nice and true.
1.6" nut width is nice and comfy between J an P size, neck is pretty beefy profile (not super thin front to back), but very comfortable to play.

Weighs in at 8.8 lbs, so not a feather, but certainly not heavy.
Includes a basic gig bag.

$400 + shipping to the US

Not looking for trades, but not opposed to considering them either.

I've got a face for radio, and I can't get the best sound in the house here on my camera video.
But I can provide some GB sloppy recordings to hear how all the different controls react. ENJOY!

To be fair, I probably wouldn't align this one directly with a typical "J style"...
- The neck is pretty large and has the wider nut
- The pickups in series are a bit more aggressive and the tilt and position of the neck pickup make it closer to a P vibe in some respects
- The electronics can get it into some pretty thick and "non-Jazzy" tonal realms.

But yeah, it's still got the slightly smaller body compared to the older Roadstar basses:

Trade didn't happen, still available.
(Nothing wrong with this bass or the offerer at all, it's perfectly cool, FYI.)

OH... and the stack knobs were switched, too:

I couldn't see the other ones well, so this was better. I cut the lines on the sides, was gonna fill with white paint, but didn't manage to do that yet. However, they are aluminum knobs, so it's pretty visible as is.
