Edit: opening this up for sale as long as what I'm looking at is still available.

This is a feeler -- mostly because I'm going to be pretty picky on what I am willing to trade for this -- but here goes:

2023 Carl S Spank 5J

Gorgeous teal quilted maple top, bird's eye maple fretboard on a three piece maple(?) neck. Aguilar OBP-3 with a three way toggle for the two bridge pickups. Pups are a set of Bartolini Brights and a Deep Tone next to the bridge, per the builder. 34" scale, zero fret, luminlay side dots on 3,5,7 and 9. Weighs 9.5 lbs. I'm not sure of the neck radius but the profile is pretty flat, like a shallow D... I dunno. I'm bad at describing these things. Either way, it's very comfortable for me to play, but I have large hands.

This thing is clean. I found two very small indentations (<1/16") on the lower horn, just in the clear coat. It sounds great, plays very, very well and the fit and finish are fantastic. But, I still prefer my American Elite J5 and am not afraid to take that one out. It can handle a battle scar or two. This thing can't -- it's too pretty.

I'm only interested in 35" four stings and maybe some 34" fivers, but still mostly 35". Trade valued at ~2800.

Looking for specific trades, some plus cash to me. US Dunables (not an R2, unless it really catches my eye or has five strings. I already have a four banger. And a Gnarwhal DE. And a custom Thunderclapper 5 on order. Sigh. Alien Audio with the dual P pups, maybe the right Lakland 55-94. Or something with an aluminum neck? Possibly a Dingwall? Honestly, there are examples of everything I am looking for in the classies. They're just not for trade :bawl:

What I'm not really interested in are Ibanez, Fenders (with the sole exception of an American Deluxe Precision V) fretless or 34" four strings. I have all of that covered. No more jazz basses, probably no straight Ps, either. Not really interested in Music Man. P/Js, P/MM, J/MM, P/P et al, are welcome.

Anyhow, here are my amateur pictures::

and here are the builder's nice ones:

Don't hesitate to PM me with any questions, offers, suggestions, love advice... I love talking gear. And other things. If you wanna get weird, I'm your huckleberry.

Which model is this? A spank, a spank custom, or a spank elite?

I've not seen any designation other than "Spectacle" for any of the Spank basses. Regardless, I would say this a Spank, since the serial is "S5J-xxxx-xxx"
However, I have not seen the serial format on the Spectacles or anything else, other than the non-Spank basses, which just started with "CS"
