I picked this up from the original owner here on Talkbass a little over a year ago. It was a custom build (circa 2004) spec’d out with a lot of extras.

- African ribbon mahogany body
- Burled maple top and matching headstock
- 3 piece quartersawn maple neck with graphite inlays
- 5A birdseye maple board with real abalone blocks, 24 frets
- White fingerboard binding,
- Tiny mandolin frets
- Jazz bass width (1.5 inch) nut.
- Nordstrand dual coils under birdseye maple covers
- Trickfish/Fodera preamp with single-series-parallel switching for each pickup
- 3 band EQ with passive tone control
- Active/Passive switch
- Standby/kill switch

- 34” scale
- 8.4 lbs!
- Includes hard shell tear-drop case.

This bass is in very good condition. It does have some light wear, but it’s hard to see or photograph due to the highly figured wood. (You gotta view the light at the right angle.)

The bass balances perfectly, both sitting and standing. The jazz bass neck profile is comfortable and a dream to play, IMO.

Sound is very much on the modern side and articulate. The active EQ can dial in everything from Jaco to Marcus, jazz bass to T-Bird (well, more like a T-bird without the wall of mud;)). The slap tone is seriously good; the combination of mandolin frets and maple board results in a percussive slap tone. It also sounds really good in passive mode; the coil switching and passive tone control provide an impressive amount of versatility even with active EQ bypassed.

I’m pricing this at $300 less than I paid in order to move it quickly, as there is other stuff I want to buy.

$1500 PayPal G & S. Buyer pays shipping. CONUS only. No trades.

Thanks for reading. DM me with any questions.

Is the scale 34"?
33". I am the original owner. I spec'd that one out to be about as 90s bling-a-licious as 30s Dumb Matt with too much money to burn could do. Oops!

It plays so fast, it's practically fretless. I had it last year, and had a new Trickfish pre installed, with series/parallel/single switches, active/passive and a kill switch. The Mazarati package.

A really quick bass. Zero resistance...it does what you do! One of the really good ones!

GLWTS!

Is the scale 34"?
(My apologies; I did not see your question before.)

I’ll defer to @Matt Power and say 33” (since he would know; although I thought it was a 34” this whole time). It’s a very subtle difference, but it does explain why it’s so easy to play chords on this bass. Matt is right; between the scale, the jazz neck profile and the mandolin frets, this thing flies. (Harmonics ring for days, too.)

I am also a previous owner. It's most definitely a sweet bass. I am almost tempted to buy it again...but I won't.

*edit from above...it MIGHT be 34, thought it was 33. I dont remember, but it is like remembering the steering difference between a Veyron, Quadrafoil and F1 20 years and a LOTTA oregano ago... You might want to bust out the measuring tape.

The all new Trickfish preamp and quad-switch wiring done by Ryan himself at the Trickfish (then) cabin is worth a third the asking cost on this! Plus, I had the Fodera/Smith teardrop case imported from Canada to round out the look!

For real talk...someone needs to buy this, consider investing 200 in custom Armstrong pickups that would drop directly into the covers to darken this bass up, and it would be as good as any (insert high end luther logo here). Mahogany and maple make an INCREDIBLY articulate, barky, instantious response, but needs a scoot from a darker pickup set to make it THE every day do-all bass! 200 bucks isn't even a home and wireless bill for a month. This bass should be 2500$+

Don't be silly...this bass is about the fastest and easiest to play bass you will find here. Set up by Brady Muckelroy. So...you get it!

Deal of the year here. No affiliation; I just want to see that mahogany and maple beast go to a PLAYER'S set of hands.

Grab your ATM/Paypal/Affirm/Snail Mail/Frog Pelts and hit buy! Smiles will come afterwards!

Confirmed. This is a 34” scale. Interesting that I find certain things easier to play on this than on my MTD 434-24 or my Tobias Classic 4, both of which are also 34” scale. I love the Tobias/MTD neck profile, but there are certain things that are easier on the Stambaugh. Must be that thin jazz bass profile.

It also occurred to me that I’ve never experimented with the configuration jumpers on the Trickfish flexcore preamp. The frequency set points are all at their default values for bass, mid, and treble. I may have to play with that and see what’s possible.
