2008 US Lakland Custom Short Scale Decade – Very few produced
Serial number DS2, Drop-D tuner, Great condition
Built in the original Chicago factory. According to Dan Lakin, it was one of only two US short scale Decades made while he was still at Lakland. It was available only as a US custom build. I’ve found mention of two other short scale Decades online, including one serial number DS7.
It’s light, fun to play and sounds great. Chi-Sonic pickups, which sound phenomenal. Clay neck dots. Original factory-installed Hipshot D-tuner. This bass is in excellent condition, with no wear or major scratches, pitting, dings, etc. - only a few very minor blemishes on the back that are almost imperceptible. Frets are in great shape. Neck is straight and the truss rod works as it should. Super-low action with no buzzing. Of note: the Hipshot tuners are reverse.
The only non-original issue is that the prior owner moved the neck pickup to the "sweet spot" from the original position directly against the bottom of the neck. It has been professionally routed for this purpose. The original route remains, but no routing whatsoever can be seen with the pickguard(s) installed. The neck pickup was in the sweet spot position when I bought it and, frankly, it sounds great there. However, I wanted it factory-original, so I had the neck pickup restored to its original spot (where the pictures show it). Super easy to switch if you wanted. I include one picture of the bass with the pickup in the sweet spot. It includes three "sweet spot"
pickguards.
