No, it's not. Firewire is sometimes called IEEE 1394, as that is the official specification as described by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The firewire protocol was developed by Apple in the mid 80s.

FWIW, USB 2.0 is FAST!!! I think its as fast as firewire is.

Just checking if this requires AC power (3.5" drive), or is it a portable thing that's powered from the USB bus (2.5" drive)?
