Danny, it's not that I don't want it and if I owned it, I would keep it...the problem is that it's 35" scale and I don't do 35's!!!

That is a GORGEOUS bass though...

Seems like I recall that "blackreverend" was specifically looking for this bass a few weeks ago. Might want to hit him up.

Pretty sure it was him, as he tried to trade me out of it when I owned this particular Elrick.

Great bass, BTW! And I know Zooberwerx put a lot of effort into the finish when he had it (he got it from me).

Oh well, that was quick. Yes, blackreverend was looking for this specific Elrick.

The bass is in near-mint condition. The finish requires occas. treatment with Tru-Birch gunstock oil and Briwax (2 of my favorites) to keep her spiffy. The Nordy DC 5 is coupled with an Aggie OBP-3 pre and has been wired with a 3-way switch: parallel / single / series.

I log in from Iraq...to see this bass for sale.

I have watched this bass pass through at least 3 sets of hands...maybe 4. One of my favorites on this board (at least from the standpoint of virtual appreciation!)

It is a stunning instrument. One of these days she'll be for sale when I'm home, able to sell one of my current instruments, and in the right place at the right time.

Ha, when I owned it it didn't have the Nordstrand in it. I suspect that probably improved it's sound a bit. As I recall it had a rather dark sound with the original pickup. Very nice bass with a look and feel all it's own. Great bass for a jazz player IMO!

Lots of interest!!
Let me just say: There's nothing wrong with this bass it sounds phenomenal. Someone said that the sound was too dark...well, it isn't! the slap and fingerstyle sounds are great! punchy, the harmonics jump off the fretboard yada yada the Nordstrand and the Aguilar made a HUGE difference... like I said, I wouldn't sell it but I'm gassing for a Smith.

Oh ****, I pass this go-round. The DC 5 adds a whole new character, trust me. The 3-way switch also wasn't a bad idea, either. I'm more of a fingerstyle type of a guy but the thing is a slap monster. I took her to scottm's (Gloucester, VA) for a little fellowship / show 'n tell and he put her through the paces. Aside from the new pup, the tone lies with the wenge neck IMO. Has more of a natural physical balance than the GS5.

Ditto. I have an Elrick 34" 5er due in a couple of weeks. Looks like walnut...mmmmmm.

Who is scottm? I'm from Gloucester, headed back there Monday. Winter Sound is the best store ever.

I certainly did not mean to suggest that there was anything wrong with this bass. And the "dark sound" I referred to was just my opinion of the way it sounded with it's original pickup and electronics. I'm sure that it has a great sound now with all the new electronics. I would love to be able to try it out and see for myself.

Anyway, it's a beautiful bass that I'm sure will make one of TB's discerning bassists very happy. Plus it's really got a cool look in my opinion. Sombody needs to give this updated beauty a try!

By the way, I've admired this through every stage of it's pickup/electronics evolution, and it's still a gorgeous piece of work! Plus, it looks like I'm one of about three people left on TB who haven't owned it yet!

I might as well chime in , since I am the one that had the DC5 pup installed.

IMO, it really opened up the sound, and the series/parallel switch offers even more tonal options.

The bass is really a beauty to behold. And the black limba body is very attractive too. I had to let this bass go because I had just begun a GAS binge that I'm still trying to contain.

I'd take it back in a second.

Elrick Gold Standard 5. Its a minor niggle but I always found the strap pin "receptacle" on the back of the upper horn to be just a tad awkward. Still balanced well and played like a charm as do all Elricks.
