This is my Ampeg AMB1 4 string bass. These are a basswood-bodied variation of the acrylic bodied Dan Armstrong basses made back in the 60’s. This version was built in Japan by Ampeg from 1999 to 2002 and they are getting hard to find. This one has the Black Pearl finish that actually has a metal-flake look to it. It has a 30” scale and has 24 frets which makes it extremely easy and fast to play. The neck is hard rock maple with an Indian rosewood fret board. It has the stock Seymour Duncan Basslines SMD4 humbucker pickup which gives it a very distinct sound. This bass in no way resembles the thumpy sound of most other short scale basses out there. It is clear and clean and has great resonation. It can be strung through the back of the bridge or through the body. The pickup has a series/parallel switch to give even more tonal variety. It is lightweight and well balanced and plays beautifully with a very comfortable neck using a 12” radius. The action is nice and low with no buzz. The bass does have a few minor dings to the body and the chrome on the bridge has discolored slightly. Otherwise it looks great. The neck is straight with no fret wear and no dings of any kind.
