So I graduated college and bought this baby from TBer and it was supposed to be my grad present to myself but I cant get a job so i have to sell this to make truck notes.
The bass was stripped down and repainted in the nitro blue by quadzilla. One of the pics shows a crack in the first fret that was fixed by one the best luthiers in Maryland,Ron Carney, according to quadzilla, but it really looks good in my opinion too. The neck is straight and I thinned down the finish on the back of the neck to make it smoother. The case is an original 1978 case. The bass has a badass III bridge on it but as in the pics it comes with the original bridge and bridge cover. The bass came with an Audere active control plate but i put the passive control plate back in cause the tone is killer. The finish does have its down points and is not perfect but from more that two feet away it looks perfect. The tone is really great and the playability is nice. Pics can be found on the link, ignore the fretless pics unless you want to buy that too,its for sale as well on another page.

So Ive never sold a vintage bass before but i think im looking for 1500-1800$. Make an offer somewhere in that area and this beauty will be yours. The only way i would trade is for a ernie ball BIG AL.

this thing looks great, but i'm not understanding the nature of this crack - can't seem to make out what the issue is (or was) from the photo. could you explain it a bit more?

Well there is crack going from the inlay to the nut. It was repaired and has no effect on the neck anymore. I dont know how it got there it was there and fixed before i ever bought it. You cant really tell its there unless you are looking close at it. My camera sucks and cant get a clear shot of it. Hope that helps some.

Better yet just read the next post cause quadzilla knows better than me. Thanks for the help man.

My luthier fixed it (Ron Carney of Coffey Music in Westminster). These cracks occur on Jazz basses from this era that are left with a lot of relief in the neck for long periods of time. The bowing forces the truss to push on the top of the neck and a crack forms.

Ron pulled the inlay, the truss bullet, etc and put in new wood, routed it and reinstalled the inlay and truss bullet. It's repaired right. Not some hack job.

When you say the finish isn't perfect do you mean it has patches of discoloration which looks 'aged' like a worn in '78 or that it just looks like a non-pro finish?

I know this is tough to describe but any more detail on this would be really helpful :)

The colour looks darker than LP blue to me but I've taken pics of an LPB J bass before and I know that they come out quite differently in flash vs natural daylight etc.

thanks for the bump. To clarify the color is nitro blue, im almost positive thats the color name not lake placid blue. Its a much darker tone and brighter presence blue.

Just looking at a Fender colour chart and it looks like it might be 'Chrome Blue'. I've only ever seen this on Strats but it does look rather cool with a pearloid white pick guard and a maple neck :)

There's a clickable colour chart here if it helps: http://www.guitarstop.com/Fender/colorchart.htm

Nitro is usually a 'finish' rather than a colour but it might not be a stock Fender colour of course.

Man hard to believe she is still here. This is one KILLER bass. Really is a shame. Hate to say it, but maybe try Evil Bay? I had my G&L up here for a couple of weeks with no bites. I listed it on Evil Bay today and it was gone in hours. Had the same thing happen with another bass not long ago. I still will always try list on TB first, but after it's been posted here for a while, going elsewhere may be your only solution. Best of luck!

I saw the paint myself when it came in new before my neighbor refinished the bass. It was in fact Lake Placid Blue according to the label on the can. It's a nitro finish.
