No these are not rare but they are getting harder to find. One of the best non custom 5 string basses ever made. Solid low B. Built like a tank. This one is in good condition but does have little nicks and dings. Good frets and truss rod. All original parts. Filter preamp sounds great. It doesn't sound like a Wal or an Alembic but it does sound great. The mini toggle bypasses the filter and makes the third knob act like a passive tone. The pickups on these were designed and manufactured by EMG so they are active. Not heavy. Medium weight is about 8.5 lbs.
