Always wanted a Rob Allen but couldn't decide between a Solid 4 or Deep 4? This may be the bass for you :) It's my Custom Deep 4 built by Rob in 2010. It's in fabulous condition.

For sale only, no trades, [DEL]$2850[/DEL] $2100 shipped to Lower 48 only.

FEATURES:

  • Brazilian rosewood fingerboard
  • matching Brazilian rosewood bridge with tone and volume knobs
  • Solid 4 mag pickup with custom winding (no piezo pickup) with matching Brazilian rosewood wood bobbin
  • vintage frets
  • drop D tuner
  • Rob Allen hard shell case

Strung with D'Addario nickel roundwounds, it sounds very much like my Solid 4 with a somewhat deeper and richer tone. Also included is a set of Fender nylon tapewounds.

What's the nut width and neck's front to back feel/shape?

The nut measures 1 and 5/8". The neck has a slightly more rounded feel than my MB-2 or Solid 4. I asked Rob about it. He said that all the necks are the same but since no two can be exactly identical, I was just feeling its unique and minor variation from my other RAs, which have a slightly wider, flatter feel. I checked and they indeed all measure the same.

34" scale length
21 frets
string spacing 3/8" at nut, 1/2" at 12th fret
Weight is around 7.5 lbs according to Rob's site (feels right to me)

Do you know if Rob could retrofit this with his usual under saddle element and blend the two signal sources?

I know that Rob has done a bass or two with both mag and piezo pickups. I'm pretty sure he could retrofit but the answer really should come from Rob, it may depend more on his workload than ability.

Sorry, I missed your post somehow. I don't have any sound clips, unfortunately. I'm not set up for it. To me it sounds very much like my RA Solid 4, just a bit deeper and richer in sound. The best description I can give is that it's a high-end semi-hollow body electric bass, except that it's a Rob Allen work of art :)
