This is a toneful little amp - open-sounding and harmonically rich with useful controls.

This amp was instant tone heaven for me, I've had mine for two years now. Three-12AX7 preamp that can go as clean or dirty as you want it to be, and the dirt you can dial in is a very usable, musical dirt. Not being a "dirt" guy, historically, I was surprised to see that my go-to setting was just at the edge of a tiny bit of dirt. Sounds like a Jamerson soloed tone. No audible dirt in the mix, but a wonderful "bounce" (for lack of a better word) with a little natural compression, for a potent fat tone with no muddiness.

If you've clicked on this thread, you're probably already aware of this thread: The HandBox Amplification Thread

But if not, there's lots of useful info on it. Yeah, I'm an unabashed fanboi:) If I didn't already have one of these, I'd buy it right now. Still find myself trying to justify buying a second to take advantage of this good deal.

Good luck with the sale!

Hope you love it as much as I love mine. And thanks for buying it so I can stop trying to think up rationales for owning two of them:)

That's one of the reasons I bought it......to help you out. :D TB'ers helping TB'ers! :)
Given your oft-expressed love of tube amps, I'll be curious to hear how you like it. Use it in good health!

Thanks Mark!

Yeah, it's no secret that I'm a big fan of all-tube amps, but I'm really looking forward to playing through the R400. I'm a fan of tube preamps that run at high (~300v) voltage, and I imagine that is one of the reasons the R400 gets such rave tone reviews. :)
