This is the Knutson Messenger with a cool custom finish. It’s kind of teal with some cool purple fading into black, really good looking! There are some light surface scratches, but no damage to write home about, really.
41.25” scale length. Six abalone inlay dots installed to perfection.
I tried every string combination I could on this thing, but it really came alive with the combo of OLIV D&G, EUDOXA A, and Spiro Mitt E. These basses are blessed (cursed?) with crazy long sustain, so the gut core strings really balance that out and provide an organic blooming of the tone that you can’t get with steel. They’re expensive strings, but in this context they really are worth it. This EUB really excels in arco amplification.
Both pickups work great. Piezo gets a solid clean EUB tone, but the internal Barbera bridge pickup is amazing! - I often like to use it exclusively in the “arco” setting (all Barbera), even pizz, but the axe features the ability to blend the two pickups as you so desire. Knobs are Volume, Blend, and Tone. There are two internal trim pots to adjust the individual volumes of the pickups pre blend knob inside the battery port. Uses a single 9V presumably for preamp. Everything works as it should.
I installed a Sugru silicon D stop on the neck heel, but that is easily cleanly removable to bring it back to the Eb neck stop.
It comes with a gig bag and also a hard-shell flight case.
Also included is a metal tripod stand mount (center tube dented from use, but fully functional and solid.)
I love this axe, particularly arco through an over-the-top effects rig (so much fun!). If you add just a little of the right type of reverb through a good amp, you can make this thing sound just like a real-deal upright.
Downsizing because I don’t get called for travel gigs and need the cash.
Not really interested in trades, but I’m always looking for King Mortones and busted up repair project ply basses.
