This is a good example of why the assumption that a 12AX7 “ALWAYS” has more “GAIN” can be so incorrect.

There is voltage gain and current gain, combined they make power gain. When the load requires more current than the tube can deliver, the apparent voltage gain can fall like a rock.

I find the pre alone too bright, the SGT seems too darken and tighten things up, phones or not at home. The cabs just seem to make it sound more like it will live, from what I'm experienced thus far any way. I'm a flats guy 85% of the time.

Got this bass for its light weight, pickups sound fine but the pots or wiring is horrible (I'm no luthier) it's basically one or the other or both but with reduced bass still I got it for the p pickup the j pickup didn't cost extra.
Maybe have it's pots or wiring done in the future because they do both sound great.
Have some old gotoh resolite tuners to slap on it, though even with the smooth strap I'm using it's not diving. But less weight is less weight
The fretboard is incredibly dry, and the frets could use some polishing. Funny enough it was properly set up and in tune out the box
And the stock strings are .
When it gets a bit cooler I will do the frets/board/strings and swap tuners

Also got a dedicated overdrive pedal the Boss ODB-3.
After having played Marshall's for years I couldn't settle on a new overdrive sound so finally pulled the trigger and finished my pedal board in the process

This artist's legacy is established and firm. My wife's motivation to participate was just to set the biographical information straight. We were happy to contribute what ephemera we hung on to. We didn't ask for compensation and none was offered. The wife is "Gung Ho" and my only misgivings are the "everything forever" wording in the contract as it now stands. We are seeking professional advice. Thank you all!

Thanks to all! I think I have a pretty solid list. We have some plans scheduled but also some open time. I'm hoping to make some stops during those times and check out some bass gear.

We are using LaVoce speakers now. The MG-ULV cabs use the same speakers we use in all of the BASS ARRAY series 2 cabs. We find they have better performance, same power handling and nicer low frequency extension and mid character response -- and they are lighter.

Thanks. The bridge is their latest design.

The original P-basses were string-through body, as is yours. Those basses shipped with flat wounds, strung through the body. There were no obvious problems with string breakage on those basses compared to round wounds through-body or flat wounds top-loaded through the bridge.

As @2saddleslab said: I would not expect more problems by stringing flat wounds through the body.

Helllo! I need help I recently was gifted a Yamaha bb2000 from a friend, the thing is that it is completely gutted no pickups pots knobs toggle switch nothing. And it turns out they don’t make the pickups anymore so my question is what would be the next best pickups to put in

Pantera is interesting because they were around a lot longer than I thought they were. I think I read they formed in 1982 or something like that. They were ahead of the game in developing a heavier sound, as well.

There's this weird period from about 88 to 92 when there were bands that were trying to be pop rock while not being hair metal, but just about none of it was anything but tepid and forgettable. There's not as much of it, but there's some metal from the same period that is similar.

An example would be Ningen Isu. Their self titled EP and their first album, Ningen Shikaku, are good, but there's just this feeling of "what exactly is this trying to be?"

The EP has a 70s Japanese rock feel for a lot of it. Is it metal? Hmmm...

The album is heavier, but it almost feels aimless as far as style some times.

I wonder if Pantera started to make the turn when they did out of foresight or boredom.

I ordered a Gretsch CVT bass from them. A very nice bass by the way. The minute I plugged it in it had a bad hum turned out one of the pots was loose and it had been turned and then - tightened where it was hitting another piece of wiring and causing a hum. I told my Sweetwater sales rep there's absolutely no way that that thing was ever checked. And if it was whoever did it needs to be fired because there's no way you could've plugged that in and not hear that. Sometimes I think all the 55-point inspection is is couple of employees who grab a car and put some check marks in it then send them instrument over to the photo guys to take the pictures. That is one of the things I do like about Sweetwater though they provide really nice pictures of the instruments and they are very good at listing the weight.

Mine was a B2A fretless, ebanol unlined board, EMG select pickups. Humbuckers indeed. Cute little bass for not much money back then. I can't say that I necessarily miss it, but I've owned worse. A lot worse.

I always have to sit on a stool with mine; I can’t deal with the rotation tendency. I stick the endpin in the floor ‘strap’ device, and it doesn’t rotate. I use the leg pin and it sits well. I’ve mentioned that I use the Sarno Black Box set to 5mohm with the copperhead pickup- I find it greatly improves the sound.
