Both look good, i had pieced a bass with a red tort guard i had lying around (but went with 70's J neck bound & blocked on rosewood), it looked good, but the neck was slightly wider than typical Pbass, sold it off.

If it were my bass, i'd do either or (even though you went with black, which is classic choice & looks down to the point).

Yeah, that's true. Chinese gear is definitely easier for me to get.
I don't want to say Chinese products are bad...there's some really good stuff coming out these days...but for me they're more of a last resort. I tend to buy gear with the expectation that I'll be using it for many years, so I'd rather invest in something from a more established brand that has a longer track record for reliability.
That said, if the price gap gets too big or I simply can't get the gear I want, then a Chinese option might end up being the practical choice.

Might work better if the walls are not parallel but putting some in makes it heavier and reduces the volume of the box. The polyester fiber fill is light and works. Good idea trying this.

Added just an ounce or two; that stuff is like air. I’m no expert in designing speaker cabinets, but seem to recall that adding damping material can have a similar effect as putting the drivers in a larger box. Something about generated heat, but I believe this is with sealed enclosures. All I know is that it now sounds much better.

I didn't like the blinking either. It also made a popping sound each time it blinked. I got a Voodoo labs current doubler (not voltage) and now it powers up without the glitching.

i use WD-40 contact cleaner on the recommendations of Dave Friedman of Friedman amps. He reccomended as a cheaper alternative than de oxit on one of his tech streams. works on Jacks and the like. on Pots for cleaning as well but then follow up with Deoxit F5 fader lube as suggested by Lyle Caldwell @ psionic audio.

If a bass makes you want to play enough that you'll practice more, then it's worth a lot. If you can get that for $400, it's an absolute steal. What someone else would pay for a particular bass is completely irrelevant.

If your reaction to an instrument is "meh", it's not worth a penny, regardless of how low the price is - it's not your instrument, leave it for someone else..

Not specifically OP-related, but I threw together a pickup jam-host band last week under this moniker. It makes sense in a weird way as a shoutout to fellow Fort Worth (CowTown) cats who spend a lot of time playing on the Dallas side of the Metromess, as is often the case.

Also, I had the cow-aviator graphic from a Midwest air show in the '90s just waiting for a repurpose.

Might use it again sometime with the same crew.

Not a book, but Discover DoubleBass has an arpeggio course. Every arpeggio has written fingerings and a piano track played at two speeds, which I find very useful.

Here is my Revsound Rs112. David Has been good on follow-up. My gigs are smaller restaurant gigs so I went with the 112. Plus as we all get older cabs get heavier! My amp is a Mesa Subway 350w. At the gig i used to use a Rumble 100. I had to place the amp in a chair to keep it from coupling with the floor to not be boomy. After receiving the Revsound, I put it in the chair like I did with rumble. and it didn’t sound good (for a lack of terms) I was really disappointed in the sound. This went on for 2 gigs. The next gig at same location i placed the cabinet on the floor, also placed a 2x4 under the front edge. This made all the difference in the world. I could adjust the amp settings to where it should be. Push for a little more volume. Much better sound! The cabinet has that Revsound sound that everybody talks about!

Wow, very cool! I hope the little boost from this is a step on the right track for them. I love book stores. There are only two local ones where I live, one which only does new, and one which only does used. I try to support them both, because they're a benefit to me and the community.

Certainly not. We pay the caterer. We pay the bartender. We pay the bookseller. But the musician should just be happy to do what they do.

There's nothing wrong with supporting a community member with a need by using skills and respurces you have. In this case, the skill is music performance, and the resource is a network of music listeners. This gig was done "pro bono," which we often see used to mean "for free," but is Latin for "for good." There's nothing wrong with doing something good for someone.
