I could use some help with one of my patches. It's designed to mimic a fretess bass and for my purposes works well except for one thing: it's not touch sensitive at all. I have played with the filter, the envelope, input gain, different sources, tried it from scratch and I just can't make any headway at all making it sensitive to playing touch. Any ideas?

Truss rod extremely tight will not loosen - ideas?

If it’s an $80 bass, I’d clamp it down with some relief added to the neck via clamp and put your body weight against it. If you snap the truss, it won’t be a big deal lol you’ll just be out $80
This is the way. Put a small piece of dowel under each end and then gently, carefully apply pressure with a bar clamp to take the pressure off the nut.

Ampeg SVT-48HE cab

A free cab is great! Thankfully reconing isn't rocket science and you've done it before. What I was talking about was a gluing process using multiple applications of a pva glue such as Elmer's that's mixed with water typically 2 parts water to 1 part glue. It's applied then dried using a small heat shrink heat tool or hair dryer. I've saved a number of vintage speakers this way. Replacing cones would be preferable though if possible. Pic below is of a repair done in this fashion. Functional, yes, but not pretty, a little paint was added to blend in the seam a little bit. One speaker that seems to model ok is the GRS 8pt-8 with a -10db around 40hz(budget option). The Facial Pro 8FE 300 and Beyma 8P300FE looks better as far as having a smoother LF rolloff than the GRS. The Beyma is the flattest rolloff till the corner point.
Grs- red
Faital- green
Beyma- blue
Note the sim is from winisd alpha, so I would check in a better program. I have heard winisd is not always accurate.

Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI — 1990s Version 0?

I imagine because they are the same pedal no point confusing people on rev variations

You might be right on that, but I think I gotta respectfully disagree.
I mean, this entire TalkBass thread was started due to confusion!
The original poster did not know what model of SansAmp he had.
And I saw a similar thread on redddit where a guy was showing photos of the "version zero" with the single switch -- and he was asking if it was fake!
He really thought it might be a cheap third-party knock-off, simply because he could find no official information on it!

So I think there probably needs to be a page or at least a note on the Tech21 Archive for the "version zero" or "Rev 1".
Anyway, just a thought!

ToneX Bass

The ToneX One bass arrived today.
I intended to use it as a stomp (overdrive/fuzz).
But from what I understand, even when stomp is off, the three top LEDs remain lit.
Can you confirm?
It's not ideal to have it always on on the pedalboard, even when I'm not using it.
You do realize that every pedal on your board is "on" all the time, I ...hope - the foot switch on a pedal just switches it in and out of the signal path.

Genzler Kinetix Settings

Seems like you could use either but the Master won’t have an effect on the tone where the input volume will. Some experimentation will be required to find what you like. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to do it, I’d just be very careful with the Master if I had the Gain and Volume cranked up.

From the Kinetix manual.

GAIN – This control provides adjustment for the overall gain level of the 12AX7 tube preamp. When used in conjunction
with the ON / BOOST switch positions it can provide a wide variety of harmonic content and complexity from clean to
overdriven tones.

VOLUME – This control sets the volume of the preamp after the tube GAIN stages and EQ network but before the EFX
LOOP and MASTER VOLUME control. Use this control in conjunction with the GAIN control to set your overall preamp
level for your desired GAIN setting.

MASTER – This control adjusts the overall volume of the amplifier and also adjusts the input level of the EFX LOOP
RECEIVE and AUX IN jacks. Typically, the best results are obtained when this control is operated between the 9:00 and
3:00 positions.

Replaced Rumble 100v3 input jack, but...

You are a quick study, sir. Best of luck with your project!

Wayne A. Pflughaupt

How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

I would say "too many," but~

A. That would be boasting, and...
B. We all know that in the bass world there is really no such thing as "too many."
Well, 'too many' is an individual qualifier, I think.

I have 3 four string P-bass derivatives (long scale, medium scale and a shorty PJ) and a bass vi. And to be honest, I feel overwhelmed at times.

Every other month I plan on downsizing, but when it comes to choosing one to sell, I just can't.

So I will have to learn to live with that curse o'plenty.

Praise & Worship Bass Strings

Hello. My bass came with round wound strings and I need to restring to flat wound. We play modern contemporary Christian music. What brand would you recommend based on your experience. Thank you!
Can’t help you with Flats. I will add that I spent over 20 years as a bassist at a fairly large (1,500 a week) with sound engineers. I used DR Lo Riders. I did use basses strung with flats on occasions but usually those elicited responses like “what up with that bass?”.

New Pedal That Delivers Alembic Style Filters For Bassists

A useful tip for using a Frequency Distiller Special Blend that a user passed along to me ...

If you put an ABY switch in front of the Frequency Distiller Special Blend and use a stereo split cable -- like this:

FD+ABY.webp

You can switch between A filter, B filter or A+B filters on the fly using the ABY switch. The photo shows our Super Transformer ABY, but any ABY switch will work.

Also, I've started using cables from TourGear Designs and I really like them. One of their cables (6" Flat Pedal Y-Splitter) is shown in the photo. I'm not affiliated with them in any way -- just a happy customer.

32” Scale Conversion Neck Market Survey

Exciting news! I bought out the remaining stock of the Lowe Custom Guitars/Allparts JRF-RM-CONV necks and I am letting them go at a substantial discount. This is the best value ever offered in a 32” scale conversion neck. When they’re gone, they’re gone!
