I cleaned my Ampeg V4BH's tolex with some warm water, a soft dish brush, and a terry cloth towel and it looks good as new. What I did was dip the brush in the water, "scrubed" the tolex in sections with a circular motion, and then wiped it off the dirty water with the towel. I hope that helps.

WD40 on a lint free rag. It evaporates after a short while and leaves no residue.

WD-40 always leaves "residue". It's petroleum-based, and will always leave lubricant "residue" behind ... that's how it's designed to work.

I've rehabbed many tolex covered items and Armor-All is one of the things that I use. Unless you have other issues, scrapes, gouges, discolored area etc., it works good. Spray it on and let it soak for a while. Then take a toothbrush and work it in. Then wipe down. Stuff like Mop n Glow, Aerowax, black shoe dye and Sharpies all too have uses in working with tolex.

I'm in for the soft brush and a mild soap, scrub it gently until the dust is gone. Once it dry some armour all or other vinyl type treatment to give a good shine

I've used ArmorAll in the past as well. And I think they also have a cleaner in addition to the protectant. Back in the day, I cleaned up my Peavey TKO 80 with some product that was made to clean vehicle dash boards and the like. Then I ArmorAlled it.

One caution with ArmorAll, the case will be slick as butter after using the ArmorAll. And be careful not to get any on the handle(s). An amp cabinet bouncing down a flight of stairs is not funny to the guy who owns it, or to the guy on the steps below it!

Now I just use a soft cloth, warm water and dish soap and then dry it with another soft cloth.

OMG, you guys and your WD-40... Leave the can in the garage. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in music... Except maybe the freeking hinges on the band trailer... That has a use for WD-40.

This should be a sticky.. Now Armor-all...

I am a super high end user of armor all. You should keep it away from a cab too, it will draw dirt and dust and stick it to the cab.. Unless you want to continually keep cleaning with the stuff.

NOW, how I use Armor-All... My wife would dress in her head to toe leather outfits before date night and I would take a rag and armor-all and polish her up, would get her in the mood for date night..

The stuff does leave a build up, so it makes whatever you are cleaning high maintenance. In my case I was already working with high maintenance anyway.

JC has the deal... Soap and water, soft brush, rinse with clean and dry... Somebody prolly uses a car wash and three layer ultra wax too...

I never use Armorall on anything that I want to be able to handle without dropping...it leaves everything much too slick.

In general, spraying chemicals and silicone on equipment is not the way to clean it. You end up with residues in places you don't want.

Another vote for simple soap and water. if you want the grille really clean, take it off and clean it the same way.

i use simple green. spray it on, let it emulsify the dirt a bit, and then lightly scrub it with a soft nylon brush. repeat, and wipe it dry with a terry towel. then i use vinylex to protect it. armor-all leaves it way too slippery and shiny, whereas the vinylex leaves it looking (and smelling) like new vinyl. IMO, i NEVER use wd-40 or armor-all since they have silicones in them.
