SWR 8" Speakers

Does anyone know if there is a replacement speaker for SWR cabs? I have an 8x8 here that has a blown driver or two (maybe more, have to look into it- it's late...), and I wonder if there's an acceptable replacement brand?

This proably sounds stupid, but you don't know if you don't ask. I got the cab in a trade deal- we're still working it out- if I could find a source to replace these (or re-cone) we'd get it fixed and I'd be all set with the trade I did to get this.

I used to have an old SWR (pre Fender) Henry that had one blown speaker.

I opened it and discovered that they had used 32 Ohm Celestion speakers and I tried and tried to search for replacements for them, but it turned out that they weren´t made anymore by Celestion. And SWR novadays informs (I e-mailed them) that they use "custom made" speakers in Henry cabinets that you can order from them. I don´t know will they sound similar to Celestions though.

One dealer recommend me to replace them all with Beyma speakers, but that was out of my budget at the time.
This happened about two years ago. I sold the cab since to get smaller rig and I slightly regrett it.

I spent a fair amount of time trying to track down a replacement Celestion for mine and eventually gave up. Couldn't find recone kits either.

The new speakers are nothing mysterious, just OEM jobs from Eminence like everything else. P/N 0067094000. I ended up getting one from this guy.

He always seems to be able to keep them in stock and got mine out promptly, pretty sure he could hook you up with as many as you need.

I replaced the 8"s in my BBII with these LDSs. It became a pants flapper. The specs show much more low end which ears can attest to. When I ordered them I discussed outfitting a Henry with these. It would be so killah! What an upgrade!

They handle 160 each so do the math. The BBII stopped having this ever so slight fragile feel though the Bag Ends and the Celestions were outstanding in this application.

I found a really old email from Celestion telling me that the Baby Blue II used the BG8-60. It has a bigger magnet (27 oz.) than the regular catalog item BG8F-100, and will handle 100W. They might have used the BG8-60 in the Henry as well, but I'm not sure.

The original Baby Blue used the Bag End E-8 driver, as we all know.

You didn't say how old the Henry is, or what brand of driver is in there now, but if it is a newer one, then just get a replacement from SWR or ebay. If it is an older model, I'd probably go with what LDS has to offer, and like greenboy said, replace all of them with the same driver. Then you could sell the used ones to people looking for replacements for their old BB or Henry.

Thanks for all the replies guys. The speakers in the box are Celestion BG-8 60s. I have since discovered, with the grace afforded by an hour of free time, that it's the tweeter causing the trouble. The speakers appear to be alright. There's an ever-so-light 'buzz' in one at very low volume, but pumped at some volume it's gone. No other sign of issue in the speaker. Might be the room?...

Will I hurt the cab by using it with the tweeter disconnected?

I've had the tweeter turned all the way off on mine for going on 10 years now. I wouldn't worry about it.

I think you can consider that Eminence to be a direct replacement for the Celestions. When they switched drivers there was no corresponding change in the dimensions of the box or the depth of the ports. Which leads me to believe they are both fine in that enclosure. In fact, they look real damn similar side by side. Could well be Eminence is building to the same spec that Celestion was.

That's good to know about the tweeter- think I'll go with it- and darned convenient of those fine folks at Eminence, too! :) Me being a cheap-ass bargain-basement-type guy, and all. As much as I like my pants flapping in the wake of a good bass line...

Eminence. 160w handling each. Long throw. The Celestions were a leap forward in throw over the Bag Ends with their soft rolled surround. These are another leap. It is not a subtle difference. No one has exaggerated here.
They are called LDSs. I don't remember the model #. Can you call LDS?

In a Henry it would cost you about $480. Not bad. Swapping out two Bart pu in your bass could cost you $200 just in parts. The power handling would go up to 1280w.
