Hey Guys. got a chance to go check out this amp. The thing is I've never had a Trace and never played through one. I'd like to get some opinions on this combo and what do you think about the price.. Thanks Guys

That combo will kick ass. GP12 smx 300w of Trace power... The head alone in it is worth that. ....... add another 210 or 115whatever floats your boat. (make sure it's 8ohm though)..... with another cab it will be around 600w of Trace Elliot goodness. That will make you need to change your pants.

I own a Trace Elliot head (AH-350SMX) with the same GP12 preamp/eq stage in it.

First off, you will find what the guy says about the wattage to be true. The rating on Trace amps is very conservative. Mine is supposed to be 350 watts, but feels and sounds like about twice that much.

Secondly, the build quality of the head I own feels like you could hang it from a crane and use it to demolish a building, then go play a gig with it.

If you like the sound, I'd say go for it, but I'd like to see you get it for somewhat less, like an offer of $450, as there is a bit of age on that piece.

BTW, there is a Trace Elliot club on TB - you might be able to find some info there.

Just picked up the GP12 SMX 2x10 combo and bought a Trace 1153 cab also. Before I hook it up I need to know if all Trace Elliot 1153 cabs are 8 ohm's, where it says the ohms on the back of the cab is worn off, I would hate to blow up my amp..Most 1153's I've seen are 8 ohm's just want to check...Thanks Guys

Most Traces are 4ohm as far as I know and the combos are supplied with an 8ohm speaker and room for another 8ohm extension. I was really jones'n for a 1215 combo a while back. Killer sound.
Here is a late 80's British AH200 GP12 I found at a pawnshop. $100 and it sounds amazing.

Thanks Downunder, will check that out...Good score on that Trace Blairb, just messing around with mine I feel it to be very mid to high mid heavy. Thinking about getting a Pre amp/DI maybe a Radial Tonebone Bassbone to add some bottom end to it....

You got all the eq you could possibly need in the combo preamp!

12 band graphic, the 2 presets are scooped mids and mondo scooped mids, the EQ balance control goes from "dubbed to the max" to "all highs, no lows" if you let it.

The cab may not have enough bottom on it for you or you might be Eq'ing it wrong. Another EQ will not solve it. Getting the 1153 may work out or you might have to pull the amp from the combo and get two 1153's.

Downunder or anyone who can help got a question for you. I know the EQ balance knob sets the pivot point at the center of the graphic about which the frequency response of the graphic can be swung. the thing is with the one I just got when I turn it all the way to the left(counter clockwise) I lose the sound, nothing. When I go from flat and turn it to the right I can hear the high end and volume increase but when set flat I turn it to the left I don't hear the low end increase and I lose volume the more I turn it.turn it all the way and no sound. So I'm wondering if that control is messed up not allowing me increase the bottom end and decrease the top end by turning it all the way to the left..Any thought's ??? Thanks Man
