OK, I've been thinking about this one but need your help. Here's the object - we choose something to read aloud and we record it, then post it in this thread. We then sit back and crack up at the accents :).
The only issue that I'm running into is that I have NO idea what to choose that we all should read. (we all read the same passage)
Quick - gimme a good suggestion and we'll get started.

EDIT - Kipling's "IF" - first paragraph. Get recording and post it in this thread:


If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

Everyone should read "lorem ipsum":

"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum."

The fact that nobody will say it fluidly will make everyone sound even more entertaining.

Would we need to use the classical or the ecumenical pronunciations?

I'm going to get my recorder working and have a go at it. May take a few as I'm working at the moment but this should be fun.

Too heavy for me, but there's no "wash" in it, so I'm game. Just gotta figure out how to record, where to dump it, and how to put a link in a post. You'll hear from me (love the bad pun) next month!
