And the EHX Small Stone or MXR Phase 45/90 will probably cop what you want.

I don't know who Nugent's current touring bassist is, but I remember reading that he uses an MXR Phase 90 for that song.

On his "Love Grenade" tour the bassist used an origional crybaby wah. It's what I use for stranglehold and it will nail the tone.

1962 Fender P-Bass, with Pre-CBS Jazz pickup added in, extra volume nob added to blend between the pickups, out of phase switch added and pick up toggle switched added, all in 1975. The "Stranglehold" bass is a very light weighing bass, ash wood, all dried out and old. It has a good ring to it and sustains well. I also added a brass nut. I removed all the finish off the bass and sanded down the back of the neck, no lacquer on the bass, no paint finish. I felt the "natural wood", made the bass "ring" more for tone. I Recorded Stranglehold at the Sound Pit in Atlanta, in 1975. One track DI into the board, with MXR Phase 90, fresh Roto strings, 2nd track thru Ampeg B-18 tube amp, played with a pick, rolling on the Open A. Setting on the bass, was a bit more P-Bass pickup with the J-Bass pickup blended for highs. MXR Phaser was set about 10:00. Ted brought the song idea to the studio and I suggested Phase Bass. During our recording sessions I would go down to Alex Cooley's Ballroom and have a beer and talk to Wizard, as great bassist, for Mother's Finest. He was using a Phaser and laying down some nice bass lines. That track is the reason I bought a phaser the first year I was playing bass (1980)... it and some dirt was all I used up until a few years ago when I expanded my collection. Phaser is still my 'go to' effect.

I also play ash bodied basses and use stainless rounds

I don't have a phase on my board, but when we do this song I have my Flanger set to a really slow sweep. It comes very close to the effect on the recording.

Great to hear it from the horse's mouth though.

I was invited to audition for a Southrn rock band a drummer of mine just joined, they asked me to do this song.

The local GC had this pedal on sale for $49, I bought it on the way from work, plugged it in, set it at 10, played with the Jazz bass, more neck thak bridge, and wow! This is it... the exact sound.
