Boutique AND road worn?

My Sadowsky P5, my #1 bass since I bought it new in 2005.

Boutiques generally cost enough that people don't want to let them get damaged, so they take extra care with them, you'll probably be hard pressed to find a well-worn one. Plus many of them are poly finished, which doesn't lend itself well to wear, just chips and scratches

Sadowsky basses have poly finished bodies, but nitro finished necks. And many boutiques have oil finishes, which are far less durable than poly.

I've seen plenty of boutique basses that have worn finishes, often (but certainly not always) those that have been played by slappers.

My fretted Elrick has several nicks, scratches, etc. Not bad or anything, but I play it a lot, so stuff happens even though I'm usually pretty careful.

Each ding does hurt a bit more than on a cheaper bass though.

My Lakland 4-94D (Shirley) is worn to hell... survived years of practicing in low-ceilinged basements, playing frat house parties, seedy bars, and even a 2 hr car fire :eek: (long shameful story :bawl: but she and I both survived)

The top is a little seperated from the body, the hardwire is all oxidized, the pickups are kinda microphonic now... but goddang does she sound good and play even better.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
