$400, don't want another ibanez, would prefer a body wood other than basswood, 4 or 5 strings is fine. Going for that old school thrash metal sound. GO!!!

I'd say the Schecter would be a good choice for old school thrash. And strippers to boot? That's hard to beat.
Peavey Zodiac wouldn't be a bad choice either. Dean and BC Rich have some offerings as well.
IF it were me I'd be looking for a used Fender p bass and beat the hell out of it Steve Harris style.
Local PDX craigslist for some used basses or Trade Up Music even?

How about an Alder body with very good sounding passive pickups? Try the Schecter Custom Diamond P. I believe I saw one used for 399 a few days back? Normal price is 499, but it's a good bass, and I wouldn't hesitate to play Thrash (or anything else), with it.

I assume you're in the PDX area? I've heard Trade Up Music's pricing is kind of weird, although my drummer and my friend from another band go there religiously. I called in to see If they had any Fender MIM's for under $400, and I was put on hold for 15 minutes before I just decided to hang up. Do you think they have any for the price Im looking for and is it worth the trip?

Trade Up has crap selection. Portland Music Company and Guitar Center both have way more selection.
Charvel 3B. Neck thru,active eletronics and on board preamp.They might not be museum pieces but the are every Fender aficanados night mare IMO , inexpensive , damn fine construction and loud!

The one over in SE has a more interesting selection than the other locations. The other two I went to were definitely bleh.
Forgot about PMC, they carry mostly Fender and Ibanez with some odds and ends thrown in,and the two GCs are okay. I have yet to find a store out here as good as the places I got used to back in Detroit.
