No, you can hear the Bass fine when you have a non-drunk, non-inhouse soundman doing the mix."Not another best bass for metal tread", then why.... when you just gonna get something black/pointy and who cares how it sounds because no one will ever hear it in the mix:scowl:
You actually need to be paying attention to do the mix properly at a "heavier" show, but it is doable (just as long as a big touring act comes to town with their own guy).

as a clue, playing lefty is not bizzare...

And in all seriousness, it would cut through just fine in a metal band. VERY punch, and that is even before it hits the EQ of my amps.
But in the mean time i'll go back to playing Old Rolling Stones stuff.... is time on YOUR side? because its on mine....
So is there a store in the PDX area where I can get a used fender (P or J) for $400 or less? I would be going to the SE division trade up, but I've heard they are a bit overpriced. Does portland music sell used?

actually that goofy pointy bass I posted in post #21 is not "good for metal", but it sure looks the part...my "metal" bass is a 5 string Jackson.
Actually, the Bassist for Carcass (old, pioneering proto-melodic death metal band) uses a semi-hollow as well.
Other than the "Moth" bass, I'd have to say the Thor Mjolnir (picture attached).
I am a fan of the purpose-buit Fender HM (Heavy Metal) bass. It has 3 (count 'em) super-hot passive jazz-style pickups and a basswood body for that cut-through-the mix sound that Metal bassists demand. I have one in total, soul-sucking black. It's the ONLY bass I use for the Pirate Metal I secretly play at home, Matey!

My vote for best metal bass is the Musicman stingray. Of course you wont find a full blood one for $400, maybe a used Sub-stingray for $500?
It isnt very pointy but they certainly come in black.
Man take a look to these Bass guitar! They are incredible for the price!
