I found this little bass in a pawn shop right down the street from me. When I saw it, I thought 'wow, that's cool....what the hell is it!' (the pawn guy didn't have a clue either!) I remembered the SBV letters and came home, got on TB and did a little research.....and here's my 2000 Yamaha SBV-500. How much?......$200 with a gig bag....well worth it! The bass cleaned up great! I actually bought it about a month ago, but I wanted to wait to post pics with the new pickguard from Pickguardian (again researched on TB, and it looks soooo much better than the plain old white....which actually yellowed some...not uncommon). I did have to replace the bridge as well as it had some kind of 'I don't know what' encrusted on it and it was pulling away from the body....so a new Gotoh 203 from Stew Mac and good to go (perfect replacement!). How does it sound??? AWESOME!! Albeit, it's a bit neck heavy.....but the neck is good and has a GREAT feel! I know there are quite a few guys out there that have this bass......and now I am glad I am one of them. It's a keeper and with around $300 total invested.....not bad! (I paid $300 for a 2000 BB1500a in great shape that I found on CL, so I think I'm two for two!)
Because of the research on this bass (and some pickup/electronic threads), I felt I had to become a supporting member. I thought it would be a good thing to share this.....what I thought was a good pawn shop find.....(they are sooooo rare these days!) as my first post as a member (after a loooong time of lurking!!!)
