UPDATE! 10/29/10 ADDED A VIDEO CLIP!!!!
Be nice ;)- got out of the shower, got dressed and just hit the record button- no warm up or anything. Playing is sloppy as HELL, but you'll get the idea of how one sounds.
Hopefully this will help out a bit on these basses.
I think it's pretty darn sweet sounding.






Talking about the "newer" ones, not the 3 pick-up versions(4 actually), but the ones that came out later.

I see them pop up from time to time, but even a quick search here didn't seen to show a lot of info on them.

Anybody have one?

Just curious. As I always dug PRS guitars and know they can produce some amazing quality. So I would assume their bass would be built the same as well.

Why didn't it take hold????

There is a used PRS bass at the Fairfax GC and it is MONEY!!! Two pickups and is just slamming!! They want like $1499 for it and if it was about $1000... I would snag it. Super high output for passive J style bass and sounds amazing!!! That is the second PRS bass I played that I fell in love with tonewise.

Well, I got two "crap" and one high praise.
Could the "crap" be a little more defined??? I've played Foderas that were "crap".
And just about everything else out there has "crap" as well.

What made it "crap"????

It belonged to an acquaintance of mine. It was very thin and lifeless tonally, the neck was uncomfortable and it would not maintain a set-up to save its life.

I think that's the Gary Grainger Sig. bass and that's the only one they make. Not to mention it's Private Stock only which would mean a price of at least 9-10,000 bones. I would love to hear one as I've read those basses are greatly improved on the C-R-A-P ones from the nineties. I've always liked how PRS guitars looked and they sound pretty good, but maybe too perfect? They just don't have that zing and grittiness that others do.

+1 This has been nearly my exact experience with them. Out of tune moving it from the case to the stand. I didn't mind the neck though, but it had a really lame sound. Thin and lifeless describes it perfectly...

The funny thing is, Paul bragged his ass off about that preamp when I talked to him about the second-run basses about a year before they came out. I have one of the original run, and it has a huge amount of personality. That bass put food on the table for YEARS.

I like my original run one, but never really play it, for a few reasons (one of which is the fairly flat radius neck which I've never gotten used to), but the second generation iterations left me cold- they definitely went backwards instead of tweaking the first design, which wasn't all bad.

You still have it/use it????? Any clips anyplace of it?????

Played quite a few. Overpriced, average tone (single coil passive, but not particularly vintage), average fit and finish for the price. IMO and IME (there are a couple of dealers in St. Louis, so I've played 4 or 5 of them).

PRS never quite got their bass product right IMO.

I would not bother with the current model (if it is still being made... I don't think it is).

Actually over the weekend I found a few for some OK prices.
Lower than MIA Fenders.
I wasn't really looking to buy one, but at sub $900, it doesn't seem to bad to be honest.
