In the Feb. 2009 issue of BP magazine, there's an interview with Flea and about his own line of basses called Fleabasses - not to be confused with the once Flea Bass by Modulus. Supposedly meant to have a 'low end price with high end quality'. Anyone else get this issue yet? Seemed interesting, but it also seemed like Flea found another outlet to get a Music Man-esque bass.

Have you been out of the loop? He left for good during '08, and Modulus changed the name of the bass to Funk Unlimited.
Cool concept, making smaller basses for kids. I know I would have wanted one when I was in 7th grade.

I'll be interested to see how these do in the market.
Map of 400-500 translates into 275 and 350 aprox right? On the one hand, they'll have to be pretty nice to compete with VV/VM Squires, but on the other hand, there isn't a major brand MM style beginner instrument out there and they will have Flea on the headstock...

Yeah, that's a given, especially since they're sold with an instructional DVD, but looking over the site, I just get the impression that these are really poorly made. I hope I'm wrong, as not to discourage young players, but the appearance just gives me a bad feeling compared to something like SX or even some of the Squires at lower price points.
I like the marketing aspect of it. It is a cute branding strategy. The colours, the teeth, etc.
I would have a concern that most kids would have no clue as to who Flea is.
A Jonas Brothers, High School Musical line or a Hannah Montana (I'm sure they are already being mass produced) line would likely have more of a recognition factor.
