little big muff

anyone tried this one out yet, is it exactly the same as the russian big muff? also is it possible to dial in just a little amp break up simulation with a muff?
( sorry if its already covered in another thread but i can't find it.)

It doesn't surprise me that you couldn't. The "Search" function drops the word "little"...

I wonder if it's possible to mod that search function?

Anyhow... I own a Little Big Muff (the new one) and it's not the same as the Russian Big Muff. You can dial in sounds similar to both the Russian and NYC tones, but it seems to have a slightly different tone of its own. It's VERY good on bass, though - it retains the bass frequency range very well.

I let my guitar-playing brother try it out the other day, and he had two complaints:

- it killed his solo highs
- it doesn't get distorted enough for his tastes on guitar (but he's a metal player like me, so I guess that's expected)

On bass, though... the distortion can be intense. Seems like it was tailored to work best on the mid-to-low frequencies, and so that's where the intensity will show.

Distortion can be really mild or really crazy, and tone can be bass-boomy to trebly-radio-y.

Yeah, I know that's not a word. I'm trying here!

So much for my Berkeley education-in-progress...

...I really need to get a few samples of this pedal up. I might be able to tonight if I can find time.

Nothing beats hearing how it sounds!

Same here, I've got an old NYC Big Muff and I replaced it with the Little Big Muff about a month ago. I really like the sound and IME, it doesn't kill the low end very much if at all.

I have had my Little Big Muff for a few weeks now and am still really impressed. It is true bypass! Its quite small so takes up little space on the ol pedal board, it retains low end very well and is very creamy!

I have mentioned this in other posts recently but adding a little overdrive from my Fulltone Bassdrive before the LBM justs takes the tone to creamy fuzz heaven! The overdrive seems to help each note come through and makes all your bass runs more articulate.

For $68 Canadian, brand new, it doesn't get much better value than this little monster.

Nobody hated the awefull mid cut the pedal has.......??? It sounds OK when you are playing alone, but in band format I lost all my bass when the Big Muff was engaged. There was no bass left (well, you missed something in the final sound).

I now own two Big Muffs. One for guitar (modded to triangle specs) and one for bass (with a Mid potmeter that let me dial in from mid cut to mid boost). With this midboost I have a huge fuzz sound on bass, not that tiny and whimpy sound a stock one produces.
A second mod I've done is removing the first pair of diodes (made it switchable); with these removed a lot of bass is regained.

I am really amazed at how inexpensive all EHX pedals aeem to be in Canada these days. I paid $95 for my mini q tron, $85 for my Bassballs and $68 for the Little Big Muff. A small stone is only $90 and an english muffin is $220

considering these are all true bypas pedals that sound great, I don't think you can beat the deals. I am jonesing for the Metal Muff now as I tried it on bass and it was outstanding! and only $95 smackers! I may have to break down and buy it.

Sounds like you're using the regular NYC Big Muff?

I haven't had any mid or bass issues with my Little Big Muff. And that's with and without EQ'ing.
