and of course what can we do about it... i dont think Fender would change their prices even if the whole TB community was against it... so whats the big deal? why do they think they need to keep heightening their quality of their basses all the time??? im sure Fender Owners are content with their basses and dont ask for those changes..

Because other companies are producing superior quality instruments at a similar, or slightly higher price. They are capitalizing on people being willing to pay more for higher quality instruments.
I am sure that it has a lot to do with the economy and various aspects to it. Perhaps a little greed as well. I cannot blame anyone for wanting to make a profit, but they as well as other manufacturers need to take into account the average spending power of the working Joe and Jane is not what it used to be.
Has anyone noticed the price of the Squire line? They have had a price hike as well. The Vintage Modified line has gone up about $25 USD while the new Vibe series went up about $50 USD.
Many American produced products have now started manufacture in east Asian countries, where labor costs are less making profits higher. Most have not lowered their prices.

Sorry, thought this was a thread about how we're tired of new threads about Fender's price hikes. Couldn't this just as easily been posted in one of them?
Whatever happen to a good old J Bass Vs. P-Bass thread??What I find funny about these threads is that most people think Fender is the only one raising prices(if you look now at a G&L Tribute L-2500 over at MF it is now at $799.99) .. Doesn't really matter to me I can't buy anything even if they didn't raise there prices.
I've seen the value of my Sting P and Jaguar--not to mention my FSR MIM J--all go up. Much as I love my ATK, I couldn't give it away now. Fenders value always go up. Now, if I could just get my '68 P back (the one I gave to my ungrateful nephew 35 years ago...)
man... the daily occurance of these "Fender Price Increase" threads reminds me of that scene from Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd is walking out of the hotel bar, reads the newspaper on the wall about the moon landing, and just loses his mind...

First, we didn't need yet another thread about Fender price increases.
Secondly, I'm certain Fender doesn't just make changes to their products in some willy nilly fashion. Anything they do in that area will be guided by market research. In addition if they never had new and different offerings, people wouldn't be as interested in buying new products from them. They have to change it up to stay in business.
Lastly, despite the fact the there has been some whining about Fender price increases, the Fender brand is still solid and people who want that brand or one of it's associated brands will still buy one. They may have to save a little longer, but when you want a Fender some "other" brand simply won't do.
Oh and my real last point is this:
Whining on a message board doesn't solve anything. If you have an issue with Fender's price increases, you should complain to Fender.

The latest price increase, be it Fender or other brand doesn't mean anything to me right now. I don't have $50 to spend on a pawn shop bass (do they still exist?), never mind a new one.
Maybe we should try to get a few members of the talkbass community to actually try and do something,a petition of sorts perhaps?nah petitions and boycotting products almost never works against corporations...

Reading this, I logged on to MF and a (MIM) Pbass is now over $600!! Seems like not so long ago they were $300, then 349, then 379, and all of a sudden this...

The Highway One (cheapest MIA) is now 979, last I checked they were 750, & a MIA Standard was 900...

...and talk about cost of living increases (here in the USA) has impact only on the American made stuff. Fact is, prices went up on virtually all of Fender's guitars/basses. I doubt this is due to their suddenly becoming generous with their workers in Mexico and China...like all great American corporations, it's all about enriching CEO's and other hoi-polloi...then something for shareholders. They're setting themselves up for a helluva a fire-sale, I'd say...

+1 I hate the price hike as well. When I heard about it I sent a message to [email protected] - I suggest everyone else do the same.
Thanks for the link! I just sent them an email. I suggested they stop by Talkbass.com to see what we are saying regarding the price increase.
While Fender keeps increasing their prices, foreign builders are taking over a lot of lost ground with quality instruments for cheap. The new Squier CV line is helping offset that a bit, but how can they keep uping the $ and expect to not bottom out eventually, even if the economy levels off soon?
