I saw a video on youtube of someone playing a Kinal bass.

I love the sound! I have been looking for a nice fretless for a while. I think that I would like to go for one of Kinal's solid-bodies. I was thinking the MK-B series. Here is the Kinal website. Invalid Link Removed I have noticed that the prices are somewhat low for a small scale, handmade instrument company. Does anyone have any advice?

Kinal makes beautiful basses and strives to keep them affordable too, which I think is pretty cool. You cannot go wrong with the quality.

Call or email Bass Northwest and ask them what they think of Kinal basses.

Kinal makes nice basses alright. I briefly owned one that I purchased used from Bass Northwest. It was an MK21 (5 string). I had to send it back though because I found the neck too thick in the first few frets. Just something to be aware of on that particular model. Other than that, I would have kept it.

Yeah, that's me :)

Both of my Kinal Acoustics are fantastic basses! Well above and beyond my expectations. And Mike's prices are really the best out there for handmade instruments of such a high quality. Here are my two acoustics, 4-string fretless and 6-string fretted:

I own a custom ordered MK6-B and couldn't be more pleased. I was able to specify all aspects of the bass with Mike. I both emailed and spoke with him directly many times during the build process. The bass he made for me is beautiful and definitely a keeper--and about $1000 less than an similar MTD I was considering! He keeps his prices low by maintaining minimal overhead and advertising. If you call BassNW, they will assist you with the custom order 206-622-2277. Good luck and happy playing!

Mike builds extremely great basses. He's an expert at woodwork and my MK5-B sounds wonderful.

The prices are great and Mike is great to work with. I'll also say his necks are some of the best in the business (mine is not thick at all the the first position).

Ordering again I'd do the same wood choices with maybe other electronics as I find the bart pickups combined with the bart preamp gives a dark voice (too dark for my tastes).
