Grace is a teenage girl who goes to my church.

My family and her family have known each other since before I was born.

Grace has wanted to play bass for 3 or 4 years, but there are a few things that were standing in her way, making it difficult, if not impossible, for her to play bass.

First, Grace has spina bifida. She is paralyzed from the waist down. Due to her condition, she is also very small. And, she has severe curvature of the spine, for which she is getting ready to have major surgery next month. She had several operations leading up to this one, but this is the one where they put rods in her back.

Second, Grace had nobody to teach her to play bass. We are in a pretty small town, and the one music store doesn't have much in the way of musical instruction.

Third, due to Grace's size and condition, most basses are too large, too heavy, and have too big of a neck for her tiny hands.

And fourth, Grace has no bass.

OK, so for the resolution to the obstacles for Grace learning the bass.

1. Despite her disability, she is strong for her size, and has a real desire to overcome her handicap. She is very bright, and a quick learner. And her name fits her perfectly. She doesn't let her disability get her down or hold her back.

2. I moved to Grace's small town last year. When she found out that I played bass, she started begging for me to give her lessons. I have never had a student before, but if she is willing to have me for a teacher, I am delighted to have her as a student.

3. A couple of guys here on Talkbass told me about a bass perfect for a person with a small stature and tiny hands. The Ibanez Mikro,

4. Thanks to the generosity of Talkbasser Bassic83, Grace now has a bass, an amp, and everything she needs to start learning to play the bass!!!

So, now, meet Grace, and her new bass!!!:)

So excited and surprised!!!

She just loves it. Purple is her favorite color. Of course, I told Bassic83 that before he bought the bass.

Grace was so excited to get her own bass! I told Bassic83 that I wish he had been here in person to see her. She wouldn't let go of my hand the whole rest of the night after I presented the bass to her.

We hope to start lessons this week.:bassist:
