The Official "I'm At NAMM '08, and This is What I See" Thread...

I'll give full report later but A LOT of cool stuff... too much to catch up on right now.. a few of the standouts:

ok... internet is whacky at hotel... going to Bass Bash right now.. will post pics later.. A few cool goodies from MTD, EBS, Aguilar, and others.

GK is comming out with a neo 2x10/horn combo, with a head
similar to an LMII or a Mesa type box, where the amp slides
down into the back of the box. Unlike Markbass, GK makes
the head easy to slide out and use on its own.
The amp is GK's take on the small, light, 300 watts @ 8ohm
amps like the LMII or Focus heads. The whole combo is under
50 lbs.
The head is very small and narrow so the controls are pretty
basic, but if its sounds good, there's less need for extensive
eq anyway. Di out, loops, etc on the back.
They tell me it should be out by June. (as I look at them with
a squinty eye) I figure August. A nice combo if it sounds good.

Sounds similar to the new Genz Benz Shuttle series. Lots of info here, including folks who are at NAMM right now checking them out:

Pictures and specs on pages 7 and 8 of the 2008 catalog:
Link Removed

1x8 and 1x10 combos under 20 pounds, 175 watts at 8 ohms, 300 watts at 4 ohms. 1x12 (32 pounds) and 2x10 (41 pounds) combos, 375 watts at 8 ohms and 600+ watts at 4 ohms, with a tube preamp. The heads are secured by 2 thumb screws, so are easy to remove.

The heads are also available separately, as is the 1x10 cab. The Shuttle 3.0 weighs 2.75 pounds with a FET pre, and the Shuttle 6.0 weighs 3.75 pounds with a tube pre. Roger Hart (TB user Hasbeen) has stated that they are getting almost the same SPL levels from the 6.0 as they get from the GBE750.

Available to ship in 2 weeks, which is going to wreak havoc with my bank account, I do believe!

It's awesome that GK is coming out with something like this too!!! It's just an amazing time to be a bassist, eh? Can't wait to see GK's take on the ultralight stuff. Should be good!

Cheers

But on the other hand, we've been waiting two years for their take on a hybrid head...........
(As much as I love G-K, I hate to sound like I'm knocking them!)

One of the reasons I'm so psyched about the Genz stuff. Available for order now, shipped two weeks after NAMM. Knowing Genz Benz, I'd bet a good amount of money that they actually *will* ship on time, too.

Cheers

I was here and I was IMPRESSED :)

its ... GK ME80 or something like that ..

here's the info from the rep ..
the price would be $599
the combo with 212 neo is $999
release date about summer 08
300W 8ohm, 500W 4ohm
weight: 3.5lbs!!

the great this is that, it is easily SNAP-ON to the 212 combo :) so you take the head out and snap it back in anytime you want :D

I talked to Rick a few weeks ago and, unless he was being coy, he indicated they were busy enough keeping up with SIII orders and didn't have any plans to imminently change the product line.

Seems like a pretty quiet NAMM.. not much new so far. A couple new cabs from Ag, a modification of the Neo Pak from Genz, etc.

Did you guys see the pictures of the Alleva booth on the bass side... whew!

Hey Ken...sent you a PM but you preemptively just replied to it. I haven't seen much either at this point. The A/C's look nice, some nice exotic BN5's...etc etc.
