Rana Ross Passes Away

For those of you who are interested in an update on Rana "BassGirl" Ross
there is unfortunately no good news as of yet. After suffering a series of
small heart attacks at home on Monday the 28th of April, Rana was taken to
the Emergency Room at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, CA. While in
emergency she suffered a full cardiac arrest and died. The ER doctors were
able to resuscitate her but, unfortunately, the attack landed her in a coma,
on life support in ICU with no neurological responses as of this writing.

The apparent cause of the heart attack was due to complications of end stage
cirrhosis of the liver. Unknown to Rana and myself she had developed several
bleeders over the weekend in the stomach. When she arrived in ER her blood
pressure was in the range of 60/32. She started to throw up blood, was given
several units of blood but they could not keep up with the bleeding and the
result was too little blood arriving to the major organs, ending in a major
heart attack. They have cauterized one bleeding ulcer so far but there was
too much blood in the stomach to see if there are more bleeders, and they've
pulled at least 400cc of blood from her stomach so far, along with 5 liters
free floating in the abdomen.

Her lungs have started to fill with liquid, but she is too grave to
withstand the standard drainage procedures. She seems to be failing as of
this moment and it would take more than a small miracle to bring her through
this.

I would like to take a moment and give big kudos to Jeff Moleski, the
engineer/producer who has been helping Rana try to complete her Solo CD
release. This man has been an incredible support throughout Rana's struggle
since she got extremely ill last October. He shut his studio down and moved
the entire setup into Rana and my living room. This allowed Rana to be able
to work on the recordings whenever she had the strength to do so, whether it
was 15 minutes or 8 hours, he has been there for her. He and Rana had just
started to do test mixes on the songs in the last couple of weeks. I may be
prejudiced, because I LOVE HER WITH EVERY ATOM OF MY BEING, with every
moment that I've been blessed to spend with her, but I think Rana should be
extremely proud of what she has created. She meant every note, every word,
every nuance that went into this recording. I hope that others will have the
chance to enjoy this effort, regardless of what happens with Rana in the
next few days Jeff and I will be doing everything possible to get the
recording released. Ideally there should be another 2 songs recorded to fill
out the CD - I was thinking that if any other bass players/musicians would
be interested in submitting and recording a song or two in dedication to the
instrument that she loves - the bass.
